Rising Ipswich quartet Afterdrive continue their rapid ascent through the UK’s alt-pop scene with the release of their striking new single Necklace, out now on all streaming platforms. The track arrives hot on the heels of support slots with Ed Sheeran and The K’s, and ahead of a much-anticipated headline show at Norwich’s Waterfront Studio on 31st January 2026 for Independent Venue Week.
Necklace captures the emotional heartbeat of Afterdrive’s sound — fusing anthemic choruses with a deeply intimate, physical energy. “Necklace feels like a statement,” the band explain. “It’s more driven, more physical, more intimate — exploring passion in its rawest sense. It still has that Afterdrive sound but with a new kind of energy that we know our fans will love.”
The track cements the band’s growing reputation for combining vulnerability with vibrancy — crafting songs that hit both the heart and the dance floor. It also marks the start of a new creative chapter, with a forthcoming EP set for release in 2026.
Afterdrive’s rapid rise has been nothing short of meteoric. From their beginnings as brothers Ben Watts (vocals) and Joe Watts (drums) jamming in their hometown, the band soon expanded to include Ed Ruff (bass) and Luke Ellis (guitar), forming a tight-knit four-piece defined by chemistry and conviction. Their emotionally charged, melody-rich sound has already earned them BBC Radio 1 airplay and slots on major stages — most notably supporting Ed Sheeran at his sold-out Portman Road Stadium show in their hometown of Ipswich.
Their recent performances with The K’s showcased their electrifying live energy, while the upcoming headline show at The Waterfront Studio promises to be another step up for the young band as they connect with fans on their own stage.
With Necklace, Afterdrive make it clear they’re not just another name on the rise — they’re one of the UK’s most exciting new alt-pop acts, ready to redefine what’s next for British pop with purpose, emotion, and unmistakable energy.
