Scottish-born singer-songwriter Blair Davie has announced a deluxe edition of their EP You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe?, expanding the original release with three new tracks. The announcement arrives alongside the release of new single Mess Like Mine, out now via Giant Music.
The deluxe edition brings a new dimension to a project that explores love, identity, resilience and transformation, with Davie continuing to develop a more rhythm-led sound while retaining the emotional honesty and lyrical vulnerability that define their songwriting.
Mess Like Mine centres on the process of learning to be open and accepting personal flaws. As the instrumental builds in intensity, Davie reflects on welcoming someone into their life who inspires confidence and makes it possible to embrace vulnerability. The result is an emotionally charged track that balances intimate reflection with the kind of expansive sound capable of filling a larger stage.
Explaining the significance of the deluxe edition, Davie says: “It completes the story. Don’t Look Back is about leaving my family in Scotland to start a new life with the person all these songs are about; Mess Like Mine is about learning to be open; I Thought About You is the emotional outburst of falling in love for the first time. Put together, it’s the whole arc – breaking, opening up, and finally letting someone in.”
For Davie, Mess Like Mine captures a pivotal moment in that journey, when the possibility of being loved begins to outweigh the fear of being imperfect.
“Mess Like Mine is the follow-up to You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe? – the moment you realise you might not be too broken to be loved. It shaped the whole creative process, musically and visually. The line ‘and I look so good in a suit and tie / and I’m sorry if I led you to believe I’d be like that all of the time’ is the crux of the EP: learning to accept your flaws and vulnerabilities enough to let love in.”
The original You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe? EP traces the different stages of love and connection. When You Fall In Love, the project’s first single, introduces its central themes of healing and understanding between past and future selves. The title track follows with a powerful, indie-tinged sound and an emphatic vocal performance, built for audiences to sing along with.
So What? brings a more upbeat, expansive energy, capturing the moment of choosing love despite the instinct to walk away. Meanwhile, You Must Be A Miracle pairs soulful vocals with an anthemic melody, expressing gratitude for someone who offers love and support through life’s darkest moments. Alive Because Of You closes the original sequence, gradually building from a gentle opening into a powerful declaration that brings the EP’s emotional themes to the fore.
The deluxe edition adds I Thought About You, Mess Like Mine and Don’t Look Back, completing the narrative Davie describes: leaving home, learning to be vulnerable and allowing a new relationship to flourish.
Davie has quickly established themselves as an emerging voice in the UK singer-songwriter scene, combining a distinctive vocal tone with direct, emotionally resonant writing. Their music balances intimate storytelling with widescreen, anthemic arrangements, while previous releases include the EP First And Last, featuring Crashing The Car, Wouldn’t Be Right and Butterflies.
Their growing profile has been reinforced by an Amazon Music UK Rising Star Award and an Ivor Novello Award nomination at the age of 23. Live highlights include supporting James Arthur at London’s The O2 and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, as well as headline performances in London and Glasgow. Davie has also appeared at SXSW, The Great Escape, Latitude, Live At Leeds, Belladrum and Sziget, and toured across the UK and Europe with artists including JP Cooper, Emeli Sandé, Sam Fischer and Fatherson.
Now based in London after growing up in Scotland, Blair Davie continues to build momentum with a run of European performances and UK headline dates this autumn, including shows in London, Glasgow, Dublin and Manchester.
