Devon-Hailing Tors Share New Single Never Give Up

by | Sep 7, 2024

British band Tors have enjoyed one of the best years on the road imaginable – and there’s much more to come. A European arena tour as guests to James Blunt? Completed. A UK headline tour including their biggest London show at Islington Assembly Hall? Sold-out. Their debut North American show at BottleRock opening for Ed Sheeran? Done. Plus, two packed sets at Glastonbury Festival with highlights broadcast on Radio 1 by Jess Iszatt. And that’s before we mention Bonnaroo, a first show in their home-from-home Woodstock, plus Boardmasters, Victorious and more.

Now, the Devon-hailing trio get their next project underway as they share their brand new single Never Give Up. Their new music follows this year’s Miracle EP which was recorded in the Catskills with influential Americana producer and artist Simone Felice (Noah Kahan, The Lumineers, Jade Bird). Listen to the new tune below:

If you’ve followed Tors before this point, you’ll instantly hear some of their indelible sonic hallmarks in Never Give Up – the soaring, tight-knit vocal harmonies that has attracted millions of views with their a capella performances on socials, and their rousing, defy-the-odds and rise against your challenges themes that give their lyrics a life-affirming wonder. But now the bouncy, jangly energy that fuels their live shows infiltrates their sound, as if Tors have embarked upon an American road trip and now sound more dynamic and electrifying than ever.

The trio commented: “Never Give Up is a song inspired by our dad who’s always encouraged us to follow our dreams and turn our art into a living. Our resilience and ability to take every knock, tumble and obstacle in our stride are because of him. In the song we’ve tried to chronicle our journey so far through music and life in general alongside reaching out to anyone else struggling through their days but refusing to give in. It’s one of our most upbeat releases to date in terms of both lyrical and musical content and it’s our personal message of hope and solidarity to everyone fighting for their passions.”

Somehow in between touring, Tors have spent much of the summer working on new music at their studio HQ, a converted barn in Devon. Never Give Up is the first taste of those sessions, with much more to come in the near future. Their accomplished musicianship must be in the genes: brothers Matt and Theo Weedon are the grandchildren of PlayIn A Day guitar legend Burt Weedon OBE, while Jack Bowden’s mother and sister are both music teachers. The trio recently also released the summer track If It Takes All Night, which, like the Miracle EP, was recorded with Simone Felice.

It’s now just a matter of days before Tors embark upon a European headline tour. Almost all shows have been upgraded and/or have sold-out, but very limited tickets for some dates remain available HERE.

Britainicana Is Louder That Americana: Westside Cowboy Stampede Through Portsmouth

Manchester-based quartet Westside Cowboy have only been together since 2023, but have already caused a stir. They have even coined a genre of their own – Britainicana. Even though the name suggests US country with a miserable and sarcastic British twist, they have created something much more fun.

Midweek Metal Mass: Lacuna Coil Blaze Through Leeds Stylus

Italian goth heavyweights Lacuna Coil turn Tuesday into a blackout ritual at Leeds Stylus, backed by a fired-up opening assault from Florida bruisers Nonpoint.

Nonpoint hit the stage like they’ve been itching for it all day. Elias Soriano stalks the mic with clipped precision, spitting hooks and commands in equal measure. Robb Rivera goes straight for the gut behind the kit, while Adam Woloszyn grinds out bass lines with industrial weight. Guitarist’s Jaysin Zeilstra and Rasheed Thomas add bite and distortion, feeding the noise without ever tipping it into clutter. The band sound more drilled-in than on their last UK run — tighter, sharper, still proudly abrasive.
