Fearless Vampire Killers Walk The Line In Ozzy’s Town At The Asylum

by | Jul 31, 2025

Taking to the stage at Birmingham’s Asylum on 26th July, Fearless Vampire Killers delivered a high-energy, theatrical performance as main support on a stacked bill featuring The Nocturnal Affair and headliner Wednesday 13. The band’s gothic flair, punchy hooks, and charismatic delivery brought a wave of adrenaline to the sold-out crowd, many of whom had already packed the venue long before doors opened.

From the outset, the band gave it their all. With tight musicianship, dramatic flair, and even a leap from the stage to sing among the crowd, they showed they were not content to hold back. The fans responded positively, with heads nodding, phones raised, and cheers erupting between songs.

However, midway through the set, a misjudged moment briefly disrupted the atmosphere. In an effort to get more movement from the audience, frontman Laurence Beveridge shouted, “This is supposed to be Tommy Shelby’s town!” It might have landed differently elsewhere, but in Birmingham, on a day when fans were still mourning the recent passing of local legend Ozzy Osbourne, it didn’t sit well. The crowd immediately shouted back, “This is Ozzy’s town!” Laurence Beveridge’s response, “Yeah, he’s dead,” was intended to be cheeky, but it came across as dismissive and poorly timed. The shift in the room was palpable, with the energy briefly dipping.

To their credit, Fearless Vampire Killers didn’t back down. They leaned into the rest of their set with renewed fire, allowing the music to speak for itself. It worked. The second half of their show saw them regain the crowd’s attention. The fans gradually warmed up again with each track, and by the time the final song hit, the room was fully back on side. Hands were raised, voices sang along, and the earlier awkwardness faded into the background.

Their performance proved both their resilience and command of the stage. Although they stumbled with an offhand remark, their energy and showmanship ultimately won the crowd over. They may have come close to losing Birmingham, but when they left the stage, the applause made it clear they had reclaimed it.
