Rather than opting for a conventional greatest hits release, the Baltimore outfit have curated a 20-track collection that digs deeper into their catalogue—bringing together alternate versions, rarities, fan favourites and previously hard-to-find material, with half of the tracks never before available on streaming platforms. The result is a richly textured retrospective that reflects the band’s evolution across 20 years of restless creativity.

Alongside the announcement, the band have shared a double single featuring Sail and Find Love, offering a glimpse into both the archival depth and enduring emotional resonance that define the project.

Comprised of Samuel T. Herring, William Cashion, Gerrit Welmers and Michael Lowry, Future Islands have carved out a singular space in modern synth-pop—balancing heartfelt lyricism with pulsing electronics and a live intensity that has earned them a devoted global following.

The new album’s title—chosen by Cashion—captures the band’s journey from humble beginnings to the expansive, emotionally rich sound they inhabit today. Drawing on imagery that contrasts everyday life with moments of transcendence, the record frames their story as one of persistence, growth and quiet reinvention.

Spanning early releases like Pinnochio and The Happiness Of Being Twice through to later-era cuts and unreleased material, the album traces a line through the band’s shifting sonic identity. From lo-fi origins and DIY recordings to the polished, widescreen production of recent years, From A Hole In The Floor To A Fountain Of Youth presents a band that has continually reshaped its sound without losing its emotional core.

It’s a release that speaks less to nostalgia and more to endurance—highlighting the depth that exists beyond their most visible moments and reaffirming their status as one of the most quietly influential acts of their generation.
