Glasgow’s Tide Lines Announce Fourth LP ‘Glasgow Love Story’

by | Nov 17, 2024

As they prepare to play to 14,000 fans during their upcoming Homeward Bound headline tour, Tide Lines have announced that their fourth studio album, Glasgow Love Story, will be released on April 25th, 2025 via their own Tide Lines Music label. The record will add to the band’s continuing ascent, with highlights so far including Official Chart success for 2023’s An Ocean Full of Islands (#13 in the UK, #1 in Scotland and #2 on Independent Albums), extensive Radio 2 support, and three consecutive sold-out nights at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom.

Vocalist / guitarist Robert Robertson says: “We’re absolutely delighted to be announcing our fourth album, Glasgow Love Story. We started the band in Glasgow back in 2016 and, since then, this amazing city has been a constant influence on our music and our lives – not to mention playing host to some of our favourite ever gigs. So I guess it was only a matter of time before our adopted hometown inspired a Tide Lines album!”

Glasgow is very close to the band’s heart, and the city’s rich musical and cultural landscape has always been a key element of their identity. From their first casual meet up in a West End bar in 2016, to subsequent rehearsals in a Finnieston studio, right through to their recent induction into the Barrowland Hall Of Fame, Glasgow has remained a central influence in the Tide Lines story.

This record speaks of the city in many of its guises: the deep, red glow when the sun sets upon the sandstone tenements, and the rain-soaked pavements glistening underneath the streetlights. Its subjects are the humble Glasgow people with a variety of stories to tell: from a warm, summer’s night of friendship in a leafy park; to a grey, windswept river imagining ghosts of Clydebuilt ships from a bygone industrial heyday.

The album is a lyrical series of glimpses into fictional lives and stories – each of them taking place simultaneously in this vibrant city that Tide Lines have come to call home. Some members have returned to rural parts of the country since the early days of the band’s formation but they are constantly drawn back to Glasgow. This personal love affair with the city inspired the album: it reflects their very own Glasgow Love Story.

The album features Tide Lines’ two recent singles: the joyous indie-folk escapism and vivid depiction of the city’s late summer haze on Cherry Blossom Sunset; and the serene beauty of Homeward Bound, which reflects on the pure innocence of childhood.

Tide Lines – completed by Ross Wilson (keyboards), Fergus Munro (drums) and Alasdair Turner (guitar / bagpipes) – recorded the album in their studio on the Isle of Mull, a converted church where Ross used to attend Sunday school. Its songs were written by Robert, and produced by Ross with the band.

Tide Lines’ upcoming Homeward Bound tour follows a busy summer which saw them play fourteen UK festival dates, many of which they headlined. This year has also seen them complete the stripped-back Elements tour which included a London show at Union Chapel, as well as dates in Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands. In addition, the group are among the first names to be confirmed to play the 2025 Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.
