Florida noise rock outfit Gouge Away have announced a new chapter in their career, signing to Run For Cover Records and unveiling the explosive new single Figurine.
The track marks the band’s first release since their 2024 album Deep Sage and signals the beginning of a fresh era for the group. Over the past decade, Gouge Away have built a reputation as one of the most intense and inventive acts in modern aggressive music, evolving from South Florida punk upstarts into a band capable of blending hardcore urgency with the jagged edge of noise rock.
Recorded live to tape by Larry Crane at Jackpot! Recording Studio in Portland, Oregon, Figurine captures the band at full throttle. A towering riff sits somewhere between the angular energy of Pixies and the abrasive swagger of Pissed Jeans, while frontwoman Christina Michelle delivers a dynamic vocal performance that shifts effortlessly from raw roars to fragile whispers.
The song was written during a tour last autumn and was the first track completed alongside guitarist Theo Hartlett of Ovlov and Pet Fox, who has been performing with the band on the road.
Lyrically, Michelle says the track was inspired by revisiting childhood home videos and reflecting on her younger self. Watching those recordings forced her to confront old feelings of shyness, people-pleasing and the pressure to live up to others’ expectations. The experience sparked a deeply personal set of lyrics about growth, self-worth and the lingering fears that can follow into adulthood.
Figurine will also be released as a limited edition 7-inch single, featuring a physical-only cover of Eisbär by Swiss post-punk pioneers Grauzone.
With the new single marking their debut release for Run For Cover Records, Gouge Away appear to be entering another productive phase. The band have a busy touring schedule ahead, including dates supporting Wednesday and major shows alongside rock heavyweights Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age.
