HANNIE Are Cosmic Bound On Their Debut Single

by | Feb 4, 2018

Meet HANNIE, London-based Hannah Koppenburg and Annie Wagstaff.

Like Clean Bandit and Disclosure, the two multi-instrumentalists write and co-produce their own tracks, choosing different singers to collaborate with on each song. For Cosmic Bound, their funky debut single released on Friday, they picked newcomer Carys Selvey.

Keyboard player Koppenburg, originally from Germany, and guitarist Wagstaff, from Surrey, first met at Guildford’s ACM University. After playing in various bands together, they formed HANNIE in 2017 and moved to East London. Since turning their living room into a studio, they’ve been writing and recording music and sharing their work in multiple home-recorded videos.

‘We’ve been doing these online videos for a while and it’s really exciting for us to have our own track out,” says Wagstaff. “It’s been a totally different experience from playing for other people and we love it!”

The duo also love inspiring other women to follow a similar path.

“Your gender should never get in the way of doing what you love and working hard,” they say. “It’s weird but there doesn’t seem to be anyone doing what we’re doing, which we find really exciting.

“We want to be a step towards putting more girls,  as musicians, in the music industry. This is the most fun we’ve ever had, and can’t wait to share these tunes with everyone.”
