Melbourne alt-pop riser Jess Ball continues her ascent with the release of her latest single Roundabouts, a reflective and emotionally candid track exploring the difficult realisation that a relationship has reached its end.
Having first made her mark as a sought-after topliner in the electronic world—collaborating with names such as Dash Berlin, Charlie Hedges and EDX—Ball has spent the past two years carving out her own identity in alt-pop. Now, Roundabouts signals a confident step forward as she continues to build her solo profile.
Driven by her distinctive, expressive vocal, the track captures the emotional fatigue of trying to salvage something that no longer works. Set against a textured backdrop of alt-pop, hip-hop rhythms and understated brass, it’s a song rooted in both vulnerability and quiet resolve.
“Roundabouts is a metaphor for going in circles in a relationship that isn’t moving forward,” Ball explains. “It’s about trying to make something work when, deep down, you know you’re stuck in the same patterns… At its core, it’s about recognising that cycle and choosing to step out of it.”
That sense of emotional honesty has become central to Ball’s solo work. Influenced by artists such as Cigarettes After Sex, Olivia Dean and Massive Attack, she blends atmospheric production with introspective songwriting, unafraid to tackle themes of regret, conflict and personal growth.
Written alongside producers Antoni Polimeni and Richy Sebastian—who between them boast hundreds of millions of streams—Roundabouts continues the momentum built by her 2024 debut EP Where You Go and more recent releases, including her collaboration with Jelani Blackman.
From early performances as a child to breakthrough moments in the dance scene, Ball’s journey has been one of steady evolution. Now firmly established as a solo artist, she’s leaning fully into a sound that prioritises authenticity over convention, resonating with a growing global audience.
With Roundabouts, Jess Ball delivers a track that feels both deeply personal and widely relatable—an anthem for anyone caught in emotional limbo, and a reminder that sometimes the bravest move is simply to walk away.
