Live Review: Kodaline @ Shepherds Bush Empire.

by | Nov 12, 2013

Kodaline at the Shepherds Bush Empire demonstrated a faultless, multitude of musical immensity, from the lyrics, the hooks to the emotion that sits behind their music. Laura Bradley went to the show to photograph and review for Rockshot.

Their performance was heart wrenching, mirroring the album In A Perfect World. The songs were so provocative that each is enough to leave you with either a lump in your throat or a tear in your eye.

Stephen Garrigan’s vocals are held with such feeling, this is an artist who puts his heart and soul behind his performance. Though mellow, emotive and melodic gigs are not to everyone’s taste, it would be impossible to come away without a degree of admiration for such an organic and raw, portrayal. They say the eyes are the windows to your soul, in Garrigan’s case, his vocals are the voice of his soul.

Its hugely refreshing to hear modern bands, stripping back and getting lost in their own influences, Kodaline covered, Sam Cooke’s Bring It On Home To Me’ which to the music fanatic is rather exceptional. 1962 isn’t exactly an era that gets revisited in this day and age!

The set also included High Hopes, The Answer, and possibly their most popular hit yet and with good reason to be, All I Want bringing the night to a close. The crowd were hesitant to walk out the door as they left yearning for more. Not a penny wasted on a ticket for Kodaline.

Alabama 3 Inject A Hypo Full Of Love Into O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

The enigma that is Alabama 3, the world’s only acid house country band, are the perfect strong finish to 2025. Holographic suits, raving to John Pine covers and even the AI resurrection of deceased co-founder Reverend D Wayne Love take second place to the overwhelming sense of joy in an eclectic community that’s coalesced around their charismatic music.
