As the UK heatwave rolls on, Morcheeba have released the aptly named It’s Summertime.

The breezy, upbeat anthem, featuring lyrics co-written by Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner, balances Skye Edwards’ distinctive vocals with Ross Godfrey’s blissful acoustic guitar ripples.

It’s Summertime is the second single from the trip-hop pioneers’ ninth album, Blaze Away. The follow-up to 2013’s Head Up High and their first since the departure of co-founder Paul Godfrey, the LP marks a return to Morcheeba’s roots.

“We brought back a lot of the influences of early Morcheeba records – from ‘50s blues, ‘60s psychedelic rock, and ‘70s dub reggae to ‘80s electro and hip hop. Whatever felt right, we went with,” explains Godfrey of the album, which features guests Roots Manuva and Benjamin Biolay.

Released in June, Blaze Away is currently being supported by a world tour that includes a run of UK dates in October. The shows will no doubt see the band performing some of the genre-defining hits (like Trigger Hippie, Part Of The Process, and Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day) that have led to album sales of over 10 million since Morcheeba formed in 1995.
