Sananda Maitreya Releases Newly Remastered ‘Neither Fish Nor Flesh’ As Part Of ‘Juvenilia: The Columbia Years’ Series

by | Feb 10, 2026

Sananda Maitreya has released a newly remastered edition of his visionary second album, Neither Fish Nor Flesh: A Soundtrack Of Love, Faith, Hope & Destruction, available now. Originally released in 1989, the album stands as a bold and uncompromising statement in his catalogue and arrives as the latest chapter in Juvenilia: The Columbia Years — a curated remastered album series tracing his artistic evolution from breakthrough success to fearless reinvention.

Following the global impact of his debut Introducing The Hardline, expectations surrounding Neither Fish Nor Flesh were immense. Rather than revisiting the commercial formula that brought him worldwide acclaim, Sananda Maitreya chose a more challenging path, embracing maximalist arrangements, philosophical depth and experimental ambition. The result was a record that defied convention, pushed against industry expectations and laid early foundations for sounds and ideas that would later be recognised across alternative soul and progressive rock landscapes.

Looking back on the album, Sananda reflects: “I jumped into this album’s recording with a total lover’s leap of faith. If The Hardline was the last of its breed, then Neither Fish Nor Flesh was the initial stirrings of what was to evolve as Post Millennium Rock. I died for this record – and time said I was right.”

While the album did not mirror the commercial heights of its predecessor, it became deeply meaningful for a devoted audience, earning its reputation as a cult classic and an essential part of his artistic legacy. Today, the remastered release offers a renewed opportunity to experience its scale, intensity and singular vision with fresh clarity.

The release also forms part of a wider schedule celebrating Sananda Maitreya’s formative years. On 13th February, he will release SMNUK’25 ! (Shepherd’s Pie), a new live album recorded during his 2025 UK tour at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Capturing the raw energy and immediacy of his recent live performances, it provides a powerful counterpoint to the studio remasters. On the same day, the full concert film Sananda Maitreya & The Sugar Plum Pharaohs – Shepherd’s Pie: Live in London will premiere on YouTube HERE.

Looking ahead, the Juvenilia: The Columbia Years six-vinyl box set will be released on 13th March. The collection brings together his first four groundbreaking albums — Introducing The Hardline, Neither Fish Nor Flesh, Symphony Or Damn and Vibrator — across six 180-gram coloured vinyl records. The box set features restored artwork, visual material and new liner notes written by Sananda himself.

Further remastered digital releases will follow, with Symphony Or Damn: Exploring The Tension Inside The Sweetness arriving on 15th March, and Vibrator on 13th April.
