SerpentS Unleash ‘Midnight Murderess!’ Ahead Of Debut EP ‘Let Loose & Join A Cult’

Manchester alt/rock four-piece SerpentS are turning up the heat with their brand new single Midnight Murderess!, an unapologetically glamorous and playful slice of modern rock that arrives ahead of their forthcoming debut EP, Let Loose & Join A Cult.

Following the band’s debut single Nerve, the new track sees SerpentS embracing a darker, more mischievous side. Built around lively guitar lines, playful harmonies and an infectious rock swagger, Midnight Murderess! blends 2000s nostalgia with a contemporary alternative edge, creating a track that feels tailor-made for summer while maintaining the band’s distinctive attitude.

The band describe the song as “a fun, glamorous hype song to kill your ex-lover to”, adding that it is “seductive and unserious, like playing with your food before you eat it.” That tongue-in-cheek sense of danger runs throughout the track, with SerpentS leaning into the theatricality and attitude that have quickly become central to their emerging sound.

Midnight Murderess! follows Nerve, the band’s defiant debut single which established their penchant for combining bold rock instrumentation with themes of assertion and retribution. Accompanied by an intentionally playful 1980s-inspired video, the track introduced SerpentS as a band unafraid to have fun while taking their music seriously.

Both songs will feature on the group’s forthcoming debut EP, Let Loose & Join A Cult, which is due for release later this autumn. The seven-track collection will pair the two released singles with five previously unheard songs, with further music set to emerge ahead of the EP’s arrival.

For SerpentS, the EP represents the culmination of years of friendship, songwriting and playing music together. The Manchester four-piece first met at college and began making music almost immediately, eventually moving into a studio flat together so they could spend virtually every day writing. At one point, the group were even skipping college lessons to work on songs in their basement.

That close-knit history remains at the heart of the band. Comprised of Eli, Cerys, Josh and Kian, SerpentS have built their reputation through energetic live performances, selling out headline shows, filling festival tents and touring alongside artists including Mouth Culture, Crawlers and Au/Ra.

Their formation itself carries a touch of mythology. During the period when the four friends were beginning to establish themselves as a band, they repeatedly encountered snake imagery and symbolism. Taking it as a sign, they adopted the name SerpentS—and have since embraced the identity as they have developed their own sound and visual world.

Their early journey has already delivered some remarkable opportunities. The band’s first studio session as SerpentS brought them together with members of two of their favourite artists, Manchester rockers Pale Waves and American alternative trio PVRIS. Growing up listening to both acts made the experience particularly surreal, while the resulting track remains unreleased and is set to feature on Let Loose & Join A Cult.

Now, with their debut EP approaching, SerpentS are ready to take that music to a growing audience. Their live schedule includes a support appearance with Pale Waves at their self-curated festival at Untitled Studio in Manchester on 11th September, before the band return to the city for their own headline show at Soup on 14th November.

With Midnight Murderess! adding another dose of swagger, melody and controlled chaos to their growing catalogue, SerpentS are rapidly establishing themselves as one of Manchester’s most exciting emerging alternative rock acts. If the new single is any indication, Let Loose & Join A Cult promises to be an appropriately loud introduction to a band who have been waiting a long time to let loose.
