Silica Gel Return With Expansive New Single ‘BIG VOID’ As Their Global Ascent Accelerates

by | Dec 11, 2025

Korean alternative innovators Silica Gel have released their new single BIG VOID, marking another major milestone in what has become a breakthrough year for the fast-rising band. The release arrives hot on the heels of the group’s high-profile collaboration with Japanese Breakfast on July’s 南宮FEFERE, a moment that significantly expanded Silica Gel’s international reach. It also follows their biggest achievement yet: a triumphant headline concert at KINTEX that drew nearly 15,000 fans — the largest solo show of their career.

Having returned from their two-year hiatus for mandatory military service, Silica Gel have rapidly become one of Korea’s most prominent indie acts. This year alone they have headlined major festivals such as Incheon Pentaport and shared top billing with Turnstile, Jack White, RIDE, and Girl In Red. They also earned Musician of the Year at the 2024 Korean Music Awards and supported Noel Gallagher on his Korean dates, further underscoring their growing influence.

BIG VOID was first unveiled as a surprise moment during their theatrical Syn.THE.Size X headline show in Korea this August. Its mantra-like refrain — “into the giant void” — immediately resonated with fans. Musically, the track blends bright, cyclical piano lines with a sense of existential awe, expanding the warmer, more organic sonic palette the band began exploring with 南宮FEFERE, moving further from the metallic edge of their early work.

The band have taken this new sound across Asia throughout 2025, performing at major festivals including Korea’s Grand Mint Festival and WONDERLIVET, Singapore’s Baybeats Festival, and Taiwan’s Golden Indie Music Awards, where they were named Best Asian Creative Artist. With each performance, Silica Gel continue to transcend genre and geography, solidifying their reputation as a leading voice within the Asian indie scene.

Accompanying the new single is a music video directed by Song Kiho of interdisciplinary collective Azikazin Magicworld. Kiho — who previously directed the band’s celebrated Tik Tak Tok video and served as creative director for Syn.THE.Size X — once again expands the visual world of Silica Gel with a cinematic, surrealist aesthetic that deepens the themes behind BIG VOID.

Silica Gel will close out the year with the Syn.THE.Size X Japan Tour 2025, performing in Osaka and Tokyo on 22nd and 23rd December, before playing one of Korea’s biggest year-end stages at Countdown Fantasy 2025–2026.

With BIG VOID, Silica Gel continue their impressive evolution, opening a new chapter that further establishes them as one of Korea’s most forward-thinking and globally resonant alternative bands.
