Nashville’s punk experimentalists Snooper have dropped their latest single and video, Guard Dog, the second track lifted from their forthcoming album Worldwide, set for release on 3rd October via Jack White’s Third Man Records.
Following hot on the heels of lead single Worldwide, which introduced fans to a sharper, bolder evolution of the band’s sound, Guard Dog packs the same frantic energy but pushes into more reflective territory. The track digs into themes of growth, discomfort, and self-doubt, before exploding into a chorus that questions perceptions and expectations: “Contradiction // lifestyle // Stick here for awhile // Believe it true! // Told me what to do? // Dogs only bark when I’m with you.”
Frontwoman Blair Tramel explains: “Guard Dog is about growth. It’s about the discomfort of feeling too comfortable and recognising when to make a change. It’s about second guessing yourself, overthinking, trust and distrust, and keeping it moving. It’s about losing and gaining perspective, having a voice, and learning how to use it. Mostly though, it’s about having fun – which is the most important thing.”
The accompanying video, directed with the band’s trademark DIY verve, builds on the playful yet chaotic aesthetic that has fuelled Snooper’s rise from underground favourites to international recognition.
Formed by Tramel and guitarist Connor Cummins, Snooper’s current line-up also features bassist Happy Haugen, drummer Brad Barteau, and guitarist Conner Sullivan. Their new record sees the band step into new sonic territory, working with GRAMMY®-winning producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen) for the first time. The result, they say, captures both the experimental spirit and live-wire energy that define Snooper’s shows while leaning into sharper melodies and rhythmic repetition.
Where their 2023 debut Super Snõõper served as a raw snapshot of their wild live presence, Worldwide finds the band balancing intensity with hook-laden songwriting, marking their most adventurous and confident work yet.
Before the record lands, Snooper will join The Hives on their North American tour throughout September before returning home to Nashville for their album release show at Eastside Bowl on 3rd October.
