It’s guaranteed to be a hot night whenever the Soho School of Burlesque hold a showcase, whatever the weather outside. The ‘beautiful cast of very gorgeous bodies’, and host Blue LaLoux flirtatiously emphasises the ‘very’ when she introduces them, are uniting to raise funds for Endometriosis UK and show off some of the finest moves in London’s burlesque scene.

Luna Lussaria, the ‘lustful witch’ opened with a mysterious and enticing routine, her Betty Page bangs nestled under a translucent cape. As her soundtrack changes from Nina Simone to the Cramps, her moves become bolder until she’s down to her purple, glittering garters. Mysti Vine, famed ‘vaudevillian entertainer’, sent us back to the roaring twenties with jazzy routine. With a broad grin and cheeky wink as she slips off her gold velvet robe, she keeps the mood light and sparkling. Nods to the past continued with Juliet Peaches’ disco-style appearance, her luxurious silver gown giving way to a showgirl lingerie set which explodes with confetti with each layer she removes.

MC Blue LaLoux’s impassioned turn opens the second act. Her full gown slips away to reveal a monogrammed micro-miniskirt, then she’s back to compering the evening still clad in her final look. The outrageous Cheski Kobler may have hidden her torso under a lampshade for her appearance but that didn’t stop her X-Rated soundtrack and provocative moves amazing the crowd. A group show reclaiming menstrual hygiene products (complete, of course, with glittering tampon tassels) led into Soho School of Burlesque founder Evelyn Carnate’s act. Her pretty pink babydoll and soft ostrich fans were deceiving as her cute routine quickly turned sharp with eroticism and humour. Turkish D’Light’s combination of traditional belly dance and burlesque, complete with ruffled boa and jaunty hat, made for an exotic finish to the burlesque for the night,. She beckons our applause as she shimmies out of her shimmering skirt before dropping into a snake-hipped floor routine.

The Soho School of Burlesque is only one of the many stunning dance organisations based in Studio West End. Their friends from the London School of Hula and ‘Ori closed the evening in spectacular style, presenting a graceful and bold routine that glides serenely between strong stances in a stunning update to traditional Polynesian dance. Nearly two thousand pounds was raised for Endometriosis UK as a result of the stunning talent and committed fundraising from the evening, and we’re left both tantalised and in awe of the array of dance skills we’ve seen in just one short burst from the fantastic performers at the Soho School Of Burlesque.
