Transatlantic indie rockers The Boxer Rebellion have released their latest single, Satellite Above, a striking new track lifted from their upcoming seventh studio album The Second I’m Asleep, due for release on 27th March.
The single sees the band tackling the pressures of modern digital life, examining the sense of surveillance, comparison and distraction that comes with constant online connectivity. Driven by fluid bass grooves and swelling anthemic refrains, Satellite Above balances introspective lyricism with the band’s signature cinematic indie sound.
Frontman Nathan Nicholson describes the song as a reflection on life in an era of perpetual observation. “It’s a reflection on the type of society we currently live in — constantly monitored, observed, and living for the curiosity and entertainment of others,” Nicholson explains. “We have forgotten what it is to live without such distraction, to truly be in the moment, and instead we are forced into this never-ending ‘carousel of envy’ as we measure our own lives against the lives of others.”
The track follows previous singles Hidden Meanings and Flowers In The Water, which reintroduced the band’s emotive sound ahead of their first studio album in six years.
Across The Second I’m Asleep, the quartet — Nicholson alongside Adam Harrison, Piers Hewitt and Andrew Smith — explore themes ranging from sensory overload and self-reflection to the quiet stillness that follows life’s chaos. The record was shaped during an intense writing period and features production support from engineers Rees Broomfield, Billy Bush and Kevin Grainger.
The band will also head out on a UK and European headline tour this March to celebrate the album’s release, culminating in a London homecoming show at Electric Brixton. Due to an injury sustained by guitarist Andrew Smith, touring duties will temporarily be filled by Charlie Barnes of Bastille.
Since forming in 2001, The Boxer Rebellion have built a loyal global following through their atmospheric songwriting and independent ethos. Their music has frequently featured in film and television, helping cement their reputation for expansive, emotionally resonant compositions.
Following a brief hiatus before returning to the stage in 2023, the band have continued to reconnect with audiences across theatres and festival stages, including a major appearance at Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands last year.
With a new album on the horizon and a tour underway, Satellite Above signals a band both reflective and re-energised, confronting the noise of modern life while continuing to refine their immersive, widescreen sound.
