I’ve written before in the pages of RockShot about Buck & Evans, one of my favourite bands. The ‘Rock ‘n’ Soul’ sound encapsulated in their debut (and currently sole) album release, 2019’s Write A Better Day is truly special though following the Covid outbreak in 2020 the band have been on hiatus whilst the four-piece pursue individual projects.
Guitarist Chris Buck has formed a formidable social media presence (his YouTube account has north of a quarter of a million subscribers) and his band Cardinal Black go from strength to strength with their third album Second Sign Of Life set for release in January 2027 matched by sell-out tours across Europe and North America.
But Buck is not alone in pursuing new musical opportunities through his other band’s fallow period. The owner of B&E’s powerhouse vocals, Sally Ann Evans has filled the downtime applying her considerable expertise as Musical Director of an eighty-strong all female community choir, the Cân Aderyn Singers.

Cân Aderyn Singers at The Principality Stadium
Challenging the typical, polite ‘female choir’ mould, the Cân Aderyn (appropriately, Welsh for ‘songbird’) Singers have been widely celebrated for their ‘unchoir-like’ performances. They are known for their tremendous fun and infectious energy and accordingly have a philosophy of #singlaughlove.
The group possess a rich vocal range and have become one of the South Wales valley’s most prominent female choirs. Their unique performances have earned them invitations to perform at the Senedd, the Principality Stadium and internationally, as prestigious guest performers on the main stage at the Cork International Choral Festival. The group also won a BBC competition earning them the opportunity to perform alongside the West End production Back to Bacharach live on stage at St David’s Hall, Cardiff.
CAS’s debut EP, Bring the Fire, is a true testament to their vocal versatility and the track list contrasts the iconic trip-hop beats of Massive Attack‘s ‘Teardrop’ with the delicate folk roots of ‘Suo Gân’ and the leading single, an intimate cover of Ewan MacColl‘s timeless classic ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’. The centrepiece of the release is ‘Dod a Thân’, (Welsh language for ‘Bring the Fire’); a commanding, original track that is both a proud nod to their cultural identity and a showcase for the fiery sonic power of eighty voices moving as one.

The Cân Aderyn Singers – Bring The Fire EP
Fans can experience the first live performance of the EP at the Cân Aderyn Singers Annual Concert and Launch Event on 5 December 2026 at Brynmawr Foundation School, where physical copies and digital pre-orders will officially go live.
Sally Ann said of the EP: “This represents the absolute dedication of eighty women who pour their hearts into mastering complex arrangements while having an absolute blast doing it! We aren’t your typical female choir. We embrace everything from rock to traditional pieces. We travel from all corners of South Wales to make this blended wall of sound together and launching Bring the Fire at our annual concert on 5 December is going to be unforgettable.”
Tickets for the Bring The Fire EP launch event can be obtained from the choir’s website while the EP will be released across all streaming platforms on 10 December.
