Hardcore New York-hailing punk mainstays The Casualties have announced their long-awaited new album Detonate, marking their first full-length release in eight years. The record lands digitally on 27th March, with vinyl and CD editions following on 17th July.
Featuring David Rodriguez (vocals), Marc “Meggers” Eggers (drums), Jake Kolatis (guitar) and Doug Wellmon (bass), Detonate captures the band reigniting their fury while doubling down on their reputation as one of punk’s most enduring and uncompromising forces.
Alongside the announcement, the band have unveiled a lyric video for the blistering title track — a rapid-fire hardcore assault fuelled by frustration and overload. “It stems from being overloaded,” explains Meggers. “You feel like your head is about to explode… you’re pounced on day by day with terrible news and social media, and you just feel like you’re going to snap.”
True to its name, Detonate channels anger at political division, endless conflict and social fracture, but reframes that rage into a call for unity. Kolatis describes the record as a reaction to constant warfare — both global and internal — adding that the band want to use their platform to promote solidarity rather than division.
The album represents a defining moment in the group’s current chapter. As their second release with Rodriguez on vocals, it cements the chemistry between the frontman, Meggers and Kolatis. Following 2018’s Written In Blood, this is also their first release for Hellcat Records, the punk imprint curated by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong. For Rodriguez, the record signals a deeper cohesion within the lineup: a creative bond forged over time rather than in transition.
Across its 13 tracks — including People Over Power, Empire Falls, Ashes Of War and Streets Of Hatred — Detonate doubles down on The Casualties’ long-standing mission: amplifying the voices of the alienated and disenfranchised. Rodriguez hopes the album leaves listeners feeling empowered, part of something bigger than themselves, and ready to scream back at the chaos.
The band will take Detonate across Europe this summer with a packed festival run, including a UK appearance at Scarborough Punk Festival.
