The Jacques Announce New Album ‘Make Repetition!’ & Share Shimmering Single ‘Ramona’

by | Aug 19, 2025

London-via-Bristol trio The Jacques are gearing up for the 5th September release of their second album Make Repetition! with a bold new single, Ramona. The shimmering synth-driven track arrives with a playful official video, setting the tone for a record that promises reinvention, resilience, and plenty of surprises.

A sharp left turn from their scruffier indie beginnings, Ramona swaps guitars for glossy synths and disco-inflected beats, echoing Blondie, Talking Heads and ‘80s new-wave while retaining the bite that has made The Jacques cult favourites. Frontman Finn O’Brien describes it as “about projection, desire, and the way we blur fantasy with memory.”

The video takes that theme into unlikely surroundings: the sedate setting of Maidenhead Thicket Bowls Club, where mismatched dates and over-competitive games unravel before the trio finally find their place inside the clubhouse. It’s a visual nod to the song’s message about belonging and self-perception.

Ramona also highlights The Jacques’ refusal to be boxed in. While earlier tracks such as Via Dolorosa and Dead Man’s Garden leaned into post-punk urgency, this latest release feels built for late-night dancefloors. Make Repetition! itself pulls from a wide spectrum, channelling the scorched indie of Blur and Velvet Underground while weaving in modern flourishes under the guidance of producers Dan Swift (Snow Patrol, Biffy Clyro), Jules Apollinaire (Suki Waterhouse, Declan McKenna) and Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Hinds).

The band’s journey has been anything but straightforward. In recent years they’ve endured the death of close friend and bandmate Will Hicks, recovered from addiction struggles, and even had their van and equipment stolen while on tour with Public Image Ltd — a stretch during which John Lydon became something of a father figure. Those lived experiences feed directly into Make Repetition!, which threads themes of loss, survival, catharsis and togetherness across its tracks.

Alongside the new single and album announcement, The Jacques have revealed an extensive run of live dates. The trio will hit stages across the UK and Europe this autumn, supporting The Sherlocks on their upcoming tour while also joining Alabama 3, The Twang and Grandma’s House for select dates. The schedule includes shows at London’s O2 Academy Islington, Manchester’s O2 Ritz, and Glasgow’s SWG3, with further stops across Paris, Hamburg and beyond.

In other news, their track Weekends has just been featured in British comedy Breaking Free, the directorial debut of Patrick Makin, starring Alexander Perkins (The Office) and Edyta Budnik (Ted Lasso).

With Ramona setting the tone, Make Repetition! looks to cement The Jacques as one of the UK’s most intriguing young bands — unafraid to shapeshift, experiment and, above all, endure.
