The Sons Of Guns Return With Summery New Single ‘I Got It Right’ – A Retro-Tinted Celebration Of Love

by | Aug 2, 2025

Following the success of their debut EP You Shine The Sun, genre-blending five-piece The Sons Of Guns are back with I Got It Right, a radiant new single soaked in sunny ‘70s charm and lyrical optimism. It’s the first taste of new music since the EP’s release, which saw the band earn praise from the likes of BBC Radio London’s Gary Crowley and Eagles Of Death Metal frontmanJesse Hughes, not to mention a career highlight performance at industry showcase Musexpo.

I Got It Right finds the band at their effortless best — marrying classic country-rock warmth with the sparkle of power-pop. Vocal harmonies shimmer atop chiming Wurlitzer piano and laid-back grooves, conjuring long road trips, orange sunsets, and the joy of simple clarity. As lead vocalist David Zincke puts it: “It’s about feeling like you’re getting everything wrong but realising that the one thing you got right is the most important: love.”

That feel-good message is matched by a playfully surreal music video, which imagines a whimsical, slapstick showdown between Zincke and the Grim Reaper himself. The two duel across chess boards, basketball courts, bowling alleys, and retro video games in a series of comically doomed defeats — until, through sheer stubbornness, the protagonist finally triumphs. Like the song, it’s about perseverance, perspective, and finding peace in what really matters.

Produced by Zincke and longtime collaborator Nick Dawes — who also co-wrote the track with the full band — I Got It Right continues The Sons of Guns’ signature approach: updating golden-era Americana with a fresh, playful European flair.

Hailing from Nice, France, The Sons Of Guns are a rare kind of international outfit. Despite being based on the French Riviera, only one member — multi-instrumentalist Aymeric Ardimanni — is French. The rest of the line-up includes English musicians Zincke, Scott Richman, Jack Daniel, and Frankie Connolly, whose backgrounds and influences converge in an energetic, harmony-laden sound that feels both nostalgic and alive with possibility.

Their recent festival sets and summer shows across France have cemented the group’s growing reputation as a live band to watch. Known for inclusive, high-energy performances — and unexpected on-stage collaborations with artists like Rick Astley and Joss StoneThe Sons Of Guns are carving out a space where heart, humour, and musicianship go hand in hand.

As their catalogue continues to grow, I Got It Right is a reminder of what makes them shine: big hooks, warm retro vibes, and a wholehearted belief that no matter how messy life gets, love always wins in the end.

“Are we having a nice time so far? Are we getting a bit warmer?” Amy Macdonald grins, peering out at a Hammersmith Apollo audience bundled into coats and scarves. It’s a question that becomes a running joke throughout the night — because despite the November chill and the decidedly frugal heating, Macdonald sets about warming the 5,000-capacity venue the only way she knows how: with humour, heart, and a powerhouse performance that leaves no seat unshaken.
