Scottish alternative trio The Xcerts have unveiled their powerful new single In Your Eyes, offering a deeply personal glimpse into the band’s latest chapter while also confirming a summer festival appearance.
Originally formed in Aberdeen in 2001, the band — vocalist and guitarist Murray Macleod, bassist Jordan Smith and drummer Tom Heron — have remained unchanged in line-up for more than two decades. Now based in Brighton, the trio continue to draw on their long-standing personal and creative connection to shape their emotionally charged brand of alternative rock.
Following the urgent energy of their recent single Do It To Myself, the newly released In Your Eyes reveals a more expansive and reflective side to the band. Beginning with delicate instrumentation, the track gradually builds toward a sweeping crescendo, balancing vulnerability with the widescreen emotional intensity that has become synonymous with The Xcerts’ sound.
Speaking about the song, Macleod describes it as one of the band’s most personal works to date. “In Your Eyes is without question the most raw and personal song we’ve ever written. Fundamentally, it’s about loss — the loss of what I deemed to be forever love and the cruelty of cancer.”
The song closes with the poignant line “this isn’t goodbye, this is I’ll love you forever”, a sentiment Macleod says captures both a sense of finality and openness. The track ends with an especially emotional moment: Smith’s mother blowing a kiss and saying “I love you”, a tribute the band felt was essential to include.
The release arrives at a busy time for the trio. Earlier this week, The Xcerts returned to the stage at The Lexington for their first live performance since September, delivering a set that revisited fan favourites while debuting Do It To Myself live. The show concluded with the audio of In Your Eyes playing over the speakers, teasing the song ahead of its official release.
The band have also confirmed their first festival appearance of 2026, joining the line-up for this summer’s 2000trees Festival — a long-standing favourite among fans of the UK alternative scene.
With more new music expected in the near future, In Your Eyes signals an emotionally charged new phase for a band that has spent over twenty years crafting some of the UK’s most heartfelt alternative anthems.
