New York indie duo Widowspeak have announced their seventh studio album, Roses, set for release on 5th June. Alongside the announcement, the band have unveiled lead single If You Change, a track that captures their signature blend of hazy guitars and melancholic, timeless songwriting.
Fronted by vocalist Molly Hamilton and guitarist Robert Earl Thomas, Widowspeak have spent over a decade quietly refining a sound that sits somewhere between dream pop, Americana and noir-tinged indie rock. If You Change continues that lineage, pairing a breezy, understated arrangement with a rich emotional core, as Hamilton reflects on the tension between preserving moments and allowing them to evolve.
The album arrives as a deeply personal collection shaped by the rhythms of everyday life. Rather than grand statements, Roses focuses on small, intimate observations — moments drawn from the duo’s off-stage lives, from work routines to fleeting daydreams. It’s an approach that gives the record a lived-in warmth, grounding its romanticism in reality.
Recorded on the Greek island of Hydra at the Old Carpet Factory, Roses was tracked during the quiet off-season, with longtime collaborators joining the sessions. The album was later refined back in the US, mixed by Alex Farrar and mastered by Greg Obis, preserving the raw textures and subtle imperfections that define the band’s sound.
Across its ten tracks, Roses leans into a soft-focus aesthetic that feels both nostalgic and immediate, drawing loose inspiration from artists such as R.E.M., Yo La Tengo and Cat Power, while maintaining a distinct identity built on the interplay between Hamilton’s hushed vocals and Thomas’ textured guitar work.
To coincide with the album announcement, Widowspeak have also confirmed an extensive North American tour throughout June, July and August, bringing their understated yet evocative live show to audiences across the US and Canada.
With Roses, Widowspeak continue to carve out a space uniquely their own—one rooted in intimacy, atmosphere and the quiet beauty of everyday moments.
