by | May 17, 2025

British alt-rock powerhouse Wolf Alice are back, and louder than ever. The Mercury Prize-winning quartet have officially announced their highly anticipated fourth studio album and major label debut, The Clearing, set for release on 29th August via RCA Records. The announcement is accompanied by a thrilling new single, Bloom Baby Bloom, which offers a raucous, radiant glimpse into what fans can expect from the band’s next chapter.

Following their critically acclaimed 2021 album Blue Weekend, The Clearing marks a bold evolution in sound and songwriting for Wolf Alice. Written in the quiet corners of Seven Sisters, North London, and recorded in the vibrant landscape of Los Angeles, the album was brought to life by GRAMMY®-winning producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Foo Fighters). It captures a band who have grown — emotionally, sonically, and lyrically — as they navigate the reflective space of early adulthood.

Frontwoman Ellie Rowsell describes The Clearing as “an album about feeling lighter — like emerging from a storm and finally being able to see what’s ahead.” Thematically, it grapples with self-reinvention, clarity, and the pursuit of calm after chaos, a continuation of the introspection that ran through Blue Weekend, but with a clearer horizon in sight.

The lead single Bloom Baby Bloom is a celebratory blast of funk-inflected rock, bursting at the seams with energy. With handclaps, piano-driven grooves, and a soaring chorus, it’s Wolf Alice at their most playful and unrestrained. The track is infectious in its confidence, with Rowsell’s dynamic vocals taking centre stage. “I wanted to sing like Axl Rose,” she said in a recent interview, “to be loud and wild and free.”

Lyrically, Bloom Baby Bloom takes on themes of identity and transformation with wit and power, exploring femininity and creative liberation. “There’s something cathartic about screaming your head off and dancing like no one’s watching,” says Rowsell. “This song is about letting that energy out.” The single is accompanied by a vibrant music video directed by Colin Solal Cardo (Charli XCX, Christine and the Queens), featuring the band performing in an explosive visual tableau of colour, choreography and controlled chaos.

To support the release of The Clearing, Wolf Alice have announced an extensive world tour that kicks off in North America this September. The tour begins in Atlanta and weaves through major cities including Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago, and Los Angeles, before heading to Europe and the UK later in the year.

The Miraculous Second Coming Of The Saints ’73-’78 At London’s Electric Ballroom

There are comebacks, and then there are resurrections. For punk devotees, the return of The Saints ’73–’78 — the latest live incarnation of the legendary Melbourne outfit — firmly belonged in the latter category. With original members Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay at the helm, and an inspired line-up completed by Mick Harvey, Mark Arm, Peter Oxley, and a three-piece brass section led by Terry Edwards, the Electric Ballroom felt less like a gig and more like a communal rite of appreciation for one of punk’s most quietly revolutionary bands.
