Following the warm, reflective title track and the recently released Monroe, the new single broadens the sonic landscape of the upcoming record. Built around hypnotic rhythms, atmospheric instrumentation and the duo’s signature intertwining vocals, ‘Celestial Bodies’ explores humanity’s enduring search for meaning while embracing the beauty and uncertainty of existence.

The song also boasts one of the longest creative journeys of any track on Karaoke Bar. Its earliest ideas emerged on the Greek island of Hydra, where an extraordinary evening saw Saharan dust sweep across the Mediterranean, turning the sky an unforgettable shade of crimson. From there, the composition evolved during sessions at the legendary Miraval Studios in the south of France before finally being completed at Angus Stone’s Sugarcane Mountain Studio in New South Wales, Australia.

Reflecting on the track, Angus explains that the lyrics bring together many of the emotions and experiences that have shaped recent years: “Lyrically it’s an amalgamation, a bit of a melting pot for everything we’re going through in life as a collective. Celestial Bodies itself, the words, that’s what we are in essence—we’re all stardust. We’re all atoms bouncing around trying to figure out who we belong with, the meaning of it all.”

That sense of movement and discovery runs throughout Karaoke Bar. Written and recorded across three countries, the album has been shaped by the environments in which it was created, with each location leaving its own distinct mark on the songs. The result promises a record that balances intimate storytelling with broader meditations on connection, memory and the passage of time.

Since first emerging with their 2007 debut A Book Like This, Angus & Julia Stone have become one of Australia’s most celebrated musical exports. Their breakthrough album Down The Way introduced the enduring hit Big Jet Plane, while subsequent releases have seen the pair collaborate with legendary producer Rick Rubin and contribute award-winning music to the acclaimed Life Is Strange video game series.

Their most recent album, Cape Forestier, marked a return to recording in Australia and was followed by an extensive sold-out international tour, including performances at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Paris’ L’Olympia and New York’s Town Hall.

With Celestial Bodies, Angus & Julia Stone continue to reveal the rich emotional tapestry of Karaoke Bar, offering another immersive glimpse into an album that appears equally concerned with life’s biggest questions and its quietest moments.
