Northern Irish alt-rock stalwarts Ash have shared the video for their latest single Ad Astra, featuring Blur’s Graham Coxon, taken from their brand-new album of the same name — out now on Fierce Panda Records.
The track sees the band exploring expansive sonic terrain, blending their trademark power-pop energy with space-age textures and a cinematic edge. Speaking about the song, drummer Rick McMurray says: “Although this song was in many ways the final piece of this album’s puzzle, it also spawned the space in which the rest of the album lives — the dark matter that binds the Ad Astra universe together. Enjoy the ride through inner, outer and liminal space.”
The album Ad Astra sees Ash embracing both their punk-rock roots and a bold new sense of ambition. There’s the blistering urgency of Hallion, the heavy riffing of Keep Dreaming, and the propulsive energy of Dehumanised, balanced by melodic highlights such as the jangling Which One Do You Want? and the acoustic-driven My Favourite Ghost. The record also reunites the band with Coxon for Fun People, one of the most frenetic and unpredictable tracks in their catalogue.
Following a whirlwind couple of years that included performances at SXSW, Latitude, Independent Venue Week, and their eighth appearance at Glastonbury, Ash continue to prove that three decades into their career they remain one of the UK’s most vital live acts.
To celebrate the release of Ad Astra, the band are currently midway through a sold-out run of UK instore performances, with shows in Liverpool and Edinburgh still to come. They’ll then embark on an extensive UK and Ireland tour throughout late 2025 and early 2026, including headline stops in Manchester, Glasgow, Oxford, Dublin, and Belfast. Many dates are already sold out, underscoring the trio’s enduring popularity and the continued appetite for their infectious, melodic brand of alternative rock.
With Ad Astra, Ash have crafted a record that looks both backward and forward — nostalgic yet progressive, reflective yet explosive. It’s a reminder that after thirty years, the band’s creative fire burns brighter than ever.
