by | Jul 8, 2026

Blackpool alt-rock favourites Boston Manor are celebrating ten years of the record that launched their career with the release of Drowned In Gold (Acoustic), the latest preview of the forthcoming Be Nothing. 10 Year Anniversary Edition, arriving on 14th August via Pure Noise Records.

The stripped-back reimagining offers a fresh perspective on one of the band’s pivotal tracks, highlighting the emotional depth of the songwriting that helped establish Boston Manor as one of the UK’s most exciting modern rock acts. It follows previously released acoustic versions of fan favourites Laika and Lead Feet, all of which feature on the expanded anniversary edition of the band’s landmark 2016 debut.

Produced by Neil Kennedy, Be Nothing. quickly became a defining release for a new generation of British alternative music. Blending melodic punk, emo and post-hardcore with an ambition that would later evolve into the band’s expansive, genre-blurring sound, the album introduced Boston Manor to audiences around the world through standout tracks including Laika, Lead Feet and Fossa.

Looking back on Drowned In Gold, guitarist Mike Cunniff describes the song as a crucial turning point in the band’s creative journey. “Drowned In Gold was a really important song for us. It was written and recorded as a stand-alone single while we were demoing songs for Welcome To The Neighbourhood. In my eyes it was the perfect transition from Be Nothing. to Welcome To The Neighbourhood and allowed us to become more experimental with our music.”

That sense of progression has become a defining characteristic of Boston Manor’s career. Rather than remaining rooted in their early pop-punk beginnings, the band have continually reinvented themselves across successive releases, incorporating industrial textures, atmospheric electronics and alternative rock influences while retaining the emotional honesty that first connected with listeners.

For bassist Dan Cunniff, revisiting Be Nothing. is both nostalgic and affirming. Reflecting on the album’s creation, he recalls the excitement of finally having the opportunity to write and record a full-length record after years of playing in bands, adding that the group always hoped the album would still resonate a decade later. “We wanted to make something that would still sound good ten years from then,” he explains. “I think we achieved that. The record opened so many doors for us, especially touring the world. Announcing our first UK and European headline tour after it came out—and then watching those shows sell out—gave us the confidence that Boston Manor could really become a proper band.”

The anniversary edition arrives in multiple formats, including CD, digital and a selection of exclusive vinyl variants, offering longtime fans the opportunity to revisit the album that laid the foundations for everything that followed.

To mark the milestone, Boston Manor will also embark on a special headline tour later this year, performing Be Nothing. in full for the very first time. The run spans North America before concluding with an intimate series of UK dates, many of which have already sold out, underlining the enduring affection fans continue to have for the album.

A decade on, Be Nothing. remains more than simply Boston Manor’s debut. It represents the beginning of a journey that has seen the band continually push the boundaries of modern alternative music while never losing sight of the emotional songwriting that first put them on the map.
