Scottish soul breakout Brooke Combe is stepping into a defining new chapter, unveiling her latest single Tears Won’t Lie alongside news of her signing to Fontana Records. Arriving in the wake of her acclaimed debut album Dancing At The Edge Of The World, the track captures an artist firmly in her stride.
Produced by James Skelly of The Coral at Kempston Street Studios in Liverpool, Tears Won’t Lie is steeped in rich, retro soul textures. Combe’s signature vocal—equal parts grit, control and vulnerability—sits front and centre, delivering a performance that feels both timeless and immediate.
Lyrically, the track digs into the emotional fallout of a relationship, exploring the moment when buried feelings rise to the surface. “It’s about someone who has spent years hiding their pain behind a smile, only to be confronted with the emotional reality they can’t suppress anymore,” Combe explains. “That moment where grief, self-awareness and reality meet.”
The single arrives with a striking visual directed by James Slater, shot in Saltaire against the backdrop of a Northern Soul dancefloor. Blending cinematic storytelling with vintage aesthetics, the video mirrors the song’s themes—capturing the tension between outward composure and inner turmoil.
Combe has been vocal about the deep-rooted influence of soul music on the UK scene, positioning herself within a new wave of artists reclaiming and reshaping that legacy. It’s a sound she’s already taken to sold-out rooms across the country, with her current headline tour proving her growing pull as a live performer.
That momentum shows no signs of slowing. Alongside a packed summer of festival appearances, Combe is set to join Jalen N’gonda on his UK and European tour later this year, including a major London date at the O2 Academy Brixton. She’ll also share stages with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, further underlining her rapid ascent.
Following standout performances on shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Later… with Jools Holland, Combe’s blend of Northern Soul revivalism and modern songwriting continues to resonate on both sides of the Atlantic.
With Tears Won’t Lie, she not only builds on the foundations of her debut but sharpens her identity as one of the UK’s most compelling emerging voices—an artist equally at home in intimate venues and on the cusp of much bigger stages.
