Carlos Santana Teams Up With Grupo Frontera For Norteño-Rock Fusion ‘Me Retiro’ — Ahead Of UK Tour Dates

by | May 30, 2025

Rock legend Carlos Santana has surprised fans yet again—this time by merging his iconic guitar-driven rock sound with the regional Mexican stylings of chart-topping group Grupo Frontera on their emotional new single Me Retiro. The track is a bold, soulful fusion of styles, uniting generations and cultures in a stirring anthem of heartbreak and healing. Blending Grupo Frontera’s nostalgic norteño rhythm with Santana’s unmistakable, soaring guitar tones, Me Retiro captures the pain of letting go, while offering a sonic balm that feels both modern and timeless. The single is produced and co-written by Edgar Barrera, a 26-time Latin GRAMMY® and GRAMMY® winner known for forging unforgettable cross-genre collaborations.

“When I hear the music and lyrics of this song, it’s about healing people, sharing light, love, and joy with them,” Santana explains. “To me, this music is meant to uplift our spirits and align our motives, purpose and intentions toward the highest good of life, people and the planet.”

Grupo Frontera, stunned by the opportunity to work with one of their heroes, praised Santana’s humility and intensity in the studio. “Being in the same room as him, watching him work—we were speechless,” the band said. “We learned so much from the experience.” The collaboration had its live debut on 22nd May at House of Blues Las Vegas, where Santana is celebrating over a decade of residency shows. The venue served as a fitting backdrop for a performance that underscores both artists’ commitment to musical evolution.

With the release of Me Retiro, Santana also gears up for the European leg of his Oneness World Tour, bringing his spiritually charged performance and decades of hits to fans across the continent. UK audiences will get a rare chance to see the maestro in action with three arena dates this June:

JUNE
18th – OVO Hydro, Glasgow
19th – Co-op Live, Manchester
21st – The O2, London

Expect a powerful setlist spanning Santana’s legendary catalogue—from Abraxas to Supernatural—as well as new material and, perhaps, a taste of his collaboration with Grupo Frontera.

With over 10 GRAMMYs, 3 Latin GRAMMYs, and a catalogue of era-defining albums, Santana’s impact on music is immeasurable. He was recently the subject of the feature documentary CARLOS, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival and is now streaming globally. This month also marks the release of Carlos Santana: Love, Devotion, Surrender (Insight Editions), a visual retrospective chronicling his extraordinary 50-year career.

Whether bridging generations through music or igniting global audiences on stage, Santana shows no signs of slowing down. Me Retiro is yet another chapter in a legacy that continues to expand its borders—musically, spiritually, and globally.

Midweek Metal Mass: Lacuna Coil Blaze Through Leeds Stylus

Italian goth heavyweights Lacuna Coil turn Tuesday into a blackout ritual at Leeds Stylus, backed by a fired-up opening assault from Florida bruisers Nonpoint.

Nonpoint hit the stage like they’ve been itching for it all day. Elias Soriano stalks the mic with clipped precision, spitting hooks and commands in equal measure. Robb Rivera goes straight for the gut behind the kit, while Adam Woloszyn grinds out bass lines with industrial weight. Guitarist’s Jaysin Zeilstra and Rasheed Thomas add bite and distortion, feeding the noise without ever tipping it into clutter. The band sound more drilled-in than on their last UK run — tighter, sharper, still proudly abrasive.
