Chance Peña Marks Columbia Records Debut With Haunting New Single ‘Tongue Tied’

by | Jul 20, 2025

Rising Texas-born singer, songwriter, and producer Chance Peña continues his stellar 2025 streak with the release of his evocative new single Tongue Tied, marking his official debut for Columbia Records. Known for blending folk acoustics, indie rock textures, and intimate lyricism, Peña delivers a soulful, stripped-back anthem that resonates with anyone who’s experienced the slow unraveling of a relationship.

Both haunting and heartfelt, Tongue Tied captures the emotional weight of trying to salvage something that’s already slipping away. It’s a portrait of quiet devastation — the moment when words fail, connection falters, and you’re left with the painful realisation that love alone may not be enough. “Tongue Tied is about the ache of speaking your truth to someone who’s no longer listening,” says Peña. “It’s about the fatigue of trying and the quiet surrender that follows.”

The new track follows three earlier 2025 singles that have already racked up more than 23 million streams, adding to Peña’s growing reputation as one of the most compelling emerging voices in indie-folk. And this September, he’s set to elevate his profile even further as he joins The Lumineers on The Automatic World Tour, a milestone Peña calls “a dream come true” given their influence on his musical journey.

The 25-year-old’s breakthrough came in 2023 with the deeply personal hit i am not who i was, which garnered over 400 million streams worldwide and landed on Billboard’s Hot Alternative and Hot Rock charts. It was a career-defining moment that introduced his introspective songwriting and emotional candour to a global audience.

His debut album, Ever-shifting, Continual Blossoming, released in 2024, further cemented his talent, showcasing an artist capable of marrying poetic vulnerability with a wide-reaching sonic palette. With Tongue Tied, Peña enters a new chapter, showing no signs of slowing down.

Born and raised in East Texas, Chance Peña began his professional songwriting career at just 17, signing with Secret Road Music Publishing. Early success came with the placement of his song Up, Up & Away in the 2019 film Five Feet Apart. He landed a GRAMMY® nomination in 2020 for co-writing Conversations In The Dark with John Legend, the lead single from Legend’s GRAMMY®-winning album Bigger Love.

Now 25 years old, Peña has built a prolific discography including three EPs, numerous singles, and his acclaimed debut LP. As he steps into the next phase of his career with Columbia Records and a major world tour ahead, Peña’s unflinching honesty and genre-blurring style make him one of the most exciting singer-songwriters to watch this year.
