Chance Peña Shares Sophomore Album ‘When I Change My Mind I Don’t Mean It‘ and Confirms UK Tour Dates With Tom Odell

by | Sep 2, 2025

Texas-born indie-folk artist Chance Peña has released his sophomore album When I Change My Mind I Don’t Mean It, out now via Columbia Records. The 14-track collection finds Peña leaning further into the poetic storytelling and emotive vocal style that has made him one of the most compelling young voices in modern folk.

The album was written and recorded in the solitude of a snow-covered cabin in the California mountains, where Peña worked closely with longtime collaborators Hayd and Sarcastic Sounds. That isolation, he explains, allowed him to uncover some of his most vulnerable and expansive songs to date.

Highlights include West Of Ohio, a poignant road-worn ballad that serves as the album’s focus track, alongside the harmony-driven anthem Collapse and the deeply introspective Wolves Of Worry, which swells into a cathartic release. Across the record, Peña balances quiet intimacy with wide-screen folk ambition, delivering a sound that feels both timeless and urgent.

When I Change My Mind I Don’t Mean It follows Peña’s 2024 debut Ever-Shifting, Continual Blossoming, building on its musical breadth while opening a confident new chapter in his career. Already a GRAMMY® Award-winning and Gold-certified songwriter—penning John Legend’s Conversations In The Dark—Peña has steadily built a reputation not only for his solo work but also through collaborations, most recently with rising Americana artist Sam Barber.

Later this year, Peña will bring his new material to stages across the globe. First joining The Lumineers on their Automatic World Tour for 20 North American dates, he will then head to Europe to support Tom Odell on his A Wonderful Life Tour, including a run of UK shows this October. The year closes with three headline dates in Australia this December.

At just 25, Chance Peña has spent over a decade honing his craft, and When I Change My Mind I Don’t Mean It makes a bold statement: this is an artist fully stepping into his voice, offering songs that navigate love, loss, and self-discovery with rare tenderness and clarity.

“Are we having a nice time so far? Are we getting a bit warmer?” Amy Macdonald grins, peering out at a Hammersmith Apollo audience bundled into coats and scarves. It’s a question that becomes a running joke throughout the night — because despite the November chill and the decidedly frugal heating, Macdonald sets about warming the 5,000-capacity venue the only way she knows how: with humour, heart, and a powerhouse performance that leaves no seat unshaken.
