Charles Kelley Steps Into Bold New Era With Second Solo Album ‘Songs For A New Moon’

by | Aug 21, 2025

Multi-Platinum singer-songwriter and GRAMMY®-winning artist Charles Kelley – best known as one-third of country trio Lady A – has embarked on what he calls a “bold new creative chapter” with the release of his second solo album, Songs For A New Moon.

The record arrives as both a personal and musical reset, one Kelley describes as a chance to embrace fresh perspectives and rediscover joy in songwriting. The result is a 16-track collection that blends genres with effortless abandon, moving from sun-soaked yacht rock to country storytelling, all wrapped in irresistible flashes of ’80s pop.

Leading the charge is US Top 10 single Can’t Lose You, a synth-driven anthem that’s quickly becoming a staple on Adult Contemporary radio. Kelley showcased the track live on The Kelly Clarkson Show in July and discussed the album’s vision during a recent appearance on CBS Mornings.

Produced mainly by Sam Ellis and Lindsay Rimes, with Kelley co-writing each original track, Songs For A New Moon balances bold experimentation with heartfelt reflection. Alongside sweeping originals like Take Back Goodbye and Lost And The Lonely, the album includes striking reinterpretations of The Killers’ Here With Me and Cyndi Lauper’s timeless Time After Time. The collection closes with the poignant piano ballad Look What We Did, cementing its arc of growth, nostalgia, and renewed optimism.

Kelley’s creative range has long been recognised. Beyond his chart-topping work with Lady A, he’s penned hits for Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, and Brett Young, while his GRAMMY®-nominated 2016 solo debut The Driver introduced fans to a more intimate, singer-songwriter side of his artistry. Songs For A New Moon, however, feels like an artist truly stepping into his own space, unafraid to expand his sound and follow instinct over expectation.

For Charles Kelley, the album is more than a collection of songs – it’s an invitation. “This project is about new energy, new possibility,” he shares. “It’s about remembering how much fun music can be when you let it surprise you.”

Third Eye Blind Bring Chaos, Charm And Catharsis To London’s Islington Assembly Hall

An ominous, synth-driven hum filled the room at Islington Assembly Hall, a restless Thursday night crowd buzzing beneath it. Then — silence. A heartbeat later, the guitars of Thanks A Lot burst to life as Stephen Jenkins strode onto the stage in crisp white trousers and a beanie, his guitar hung low, his every movement theatrical. The room erupted. Without a word, Third Eye Blind were off and running — all muscle, melody and memory.
