Australian singer-songwriter Chet Faker is back, and he’s baring his soul. Today sees the release of his new single, Inefficient Love, following his 2025 track Far Side of the Moon. The song arrives with a beautifully intimate video that captures the emotional weight of the track.
A tender declaration of unconditional love, Inefficient Love finds Nick Murphy—Faker’s real name—stripping back the production to reveal raw emotion and vulnerability. Layered vocals float over a somber guitar strum as he explores the tension between the love he receives and the love he longs for. Of the track, Murphy explains” “Inefficient Love was one of those songs that beamed in from somewhere. I was sitting on my couch at home watching a show and started playing the guitar, and just played the whole song in about five minutes. It feels old and I love it.”
Chet Faker has been a defining voice in Australian music for over a decade. After first going viral in 2011, his debut EP Thinking In Textures won Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Best Independent Single/EP at the Australian Independent Records Awards, setting the stage for a meteoric rise. His 2014 debut LP Built On Glass debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and delivered iconic singles like Gold and Talk Is Cheap (which topped Triple J’s Hottest 100), earning him five ARIA Awards.
Known for his restless creativity, Faker has continually evolved, working with the likes of Flume and Marcus Marr, releasing albums under his birth name Nick Murphy, and delivering the acclaimed 2021 LP Hotel Surrender, which featured the hits Low and Feel Good and charted in the ARIA Top 20. Inefficient Love continues that trajectory, offering a rare glimpse at the artist at his most introspective, raw, and deeply human.
