Citizen have announced their long-awaited new album Halcyon Blues, set for release on 7th August, alongside the arrival of its lead single Highs And Lows.
The Toledo, Ohio band’s latest chapter finds them leaning into a confident, fully realised version of their sound. Highs And Lows arrives as a powerful introduction to the record—opening with a dark, pulsing bassline before expanding into a bright, arena-ready chorus that signals both growth and intent. It’s a track that encapsulates the band’s ability to balance weight and uplift, tension and release, all within a single, anthemic arc.
Seventeen years into their career, Citizen continue to defy easy categorisation. Since forming as teenagers, the band have carved out a reputation for constant evolution, moving fluidly between emo, post-hardcore, alternative rock and indie-leaning textures. Rather than settling into a fixed identity, they have consistently pushed forward—something that defines Halcyon Blues at its core.
The new album is described as a culmination of that journey, drawing together elements from across their catalogue into a cohesive and self-assured statement. Recorded by frontman Mat Kerekes and mixed by acclaimed producer Tom Lorde-Alge—known for his work with U2, Weezer and Blink-182—the record blends the urgency of Citizen’s earlier material with the scale and melodic clarity of their more recent releases.
At the heart of the album is a band still operating with a clear sense of purpose. Guitarist Nick Hamm emphasises that Citizen have never been driven by trends or short-term momentum, instead approaching their music as an ongoing creative project. That long-view mentality has allowed them to grow organically, building a dedicated global audience along the way.
Halcyon Blues arrives not as a reinvention, but as a refinement—an album that reflects where Citizen have been while pushing confidently into what comes next. It’s a record shaped by experience, but not weighed down by it, capturing a band still very much in motion.
To coincide with the announcement, Citizen have also confirmed an extensive run of worldwide tour dates in support of the album. The tour will see the band head across North America, Europe and Australia, with the UK and EU leg featuring support from Modern Color and thistle..
