The third LP, released in March this year was a melting pot of ideas. Rockshot reviewed Lust for Life and found it was filled with creative idiosyncrasies and able to evoke both anxiety and joy. The experimentation made it one of the most interesting albums of the year and the deluxe version only adds to that intrigue. The seven additional tracks released today, reframe and rework the original record’s ideas; a collage of demos, remixes and live recordings that highlight the band’s obsession with duality and reinvention.

A thumping bassline and infectious groove the original Pause At You was a highlight from the album and released today alongside a new visualiser, pause at you (Meg Ward’s Wavy Remix) pushes song’s bittersweet energy into a new electronic realm tying Courting’s sharp-edged pop sensibilities to the dancefloor.

namcy – Dj Streaks Remix brings a playful noughties energy whereas rollback freestyle with New York rapper RXK Nephew adds another chaotic layer to a collection of  complex and textured songs.Throughout the album there is a tension; a push and pull of changing rhythms that keep the listener guessing and ultimately, wanting more.

The release arrives as Courting prepare for their upcoming UK and EU tour, and follows the announcement that the band will support The Cribs on tour in March next year. It’s not the first time they will be working together as Ryan and Gary Jarman from the Wakefield band, co-produced Courting’s 2024 album New Last Name, helping them refine their sound. Rockshot were lucky enough to catch Courting live at Oslo Hackney in April where they bought the energy and immediacy of their records to the stage so if you get a chance, go and catch them live!

Architects Give London’s O2 Arena So Much More Than Whiplash

The O2 Arena is dark. A rumble transforms into what sounds like an air raid siren. Bass drones stab through, in time with bars of light above and below the stage. Shimmers appear further back, casting shadows. Electro beats kick in. Suddenly, just for a moment, the lights and sound cut out; a deep breath before the synths of Elegy begin. Spotlights hit Sam Carter as he starts to sing, the rest of the stage still murky.
