Everyone Says Hi Return With Infectious New Single ‘Communication’ + Announce December Headline Shows

by | Oct 23, 2025

Everyone Says Hi — the new project led by ex-Kaiser Chiefs songwriter and drummer Nick Hodgson — are back with their latest single, Communication. The track marks the band’s first new release since their acclaimed self-titled debut album earlier this year and comes alongside the announcement of two UK headline shows this December.

Since releasing their debut in January, the five-piece have spent the past year sharing stages with Razorlight, Van Morrison and Neil Young and Lord Huron, while also making their mark at festivals across the UK and Ireland. With Communication the band step confidently into their next chapter — one driven by groove, sharp wit, and an infectious sense of purpose.

Co-written with Justin Parker (Lana Del Rey, Rihanna), Communication is a sleek, funk-infused indie anthem underpinned by a rolling bassline and tight rhythm section. Hodgson wrote the song on a Fender Stratocaster previously owned by The Strokes’ guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., an instrument he describes as his own “hitmaker.”

Speaking about the single’s origins, Hodgson explains: “The origin of Communication has three parts. First, I bought Albert Hammond Jr’s old guitar — I kept playing it, and songs started to appear. Maybe they’re his songs? Around the same time, I was trying to play Lola Young’s Messy on guitar. I hit the wrong chord, but that mistake became the starting point for the Communication chords. Then, while writing the chorus, I kept getting WhatsApp messages and emails — reminders of all these things I had to do. I kept responding and more would come in. I was still playing guitar and singing, and suddenly the chorus lyric popped out: *‘Communication is getting me down.’”

Lyrically, the song captures the exhaustion of constant digital connection — a wry observation on modern life that urges listeners to disconnect and be present. Hodgson co-wrote the lyrics with Parker, while bassist Pete Denton’s last-minute bassline tweak in the studio gave the song its irresistible final groove.

“Our bassist played a new bassline really late in the process,” Hodgson recalls. “We all looked at each other — and I’m hesitant to say, some dancing did occur. That was the final bit of the puzzle.”

To celebrate the release, Everyone Says Hi will play two intimate headline shows in December — at The Lexington, London (Tuesday 9th December) and Brudenell, Leeds (Wednesday 10th December) — where they’ll debut new material from their forthcoming second album.

Formed as a creative reset for Hodgson, Everyone Says Hi represents a full-circle return to the collaborative energy of being in a band. Named after the David Bowie song of the same title, the project sees Hodgson joined by long-time friends and collaborators, crafting emotionally charged, arena-ready indie-pop with both substance and flair.

Since leaving Kaiser Chiefs in 2012, Hodgson has become one of Britain’s most successful behind-the-scenes songwriters, working with Dua Lipa, George Ezra, You Me At Six, Duran Duran, Holly Humberstone, and Mark Ronson, among others. Now, with Everyone Says Hi, he’s stepping back into the spotlight — but firmly on his own terms.

Architects Give London’s O2 Arena So Much More Than Whiplash

The O2 Arena is dark. A rumble transforms into what sounds like an air raid siren. Bass drones stab through, in time with bars of light above and below the stage. Shimmers appear further back, casting shadows. Electro beats kick in. Suddenly, just for a moment, the lights and sound cut out; a deep breath before the synths of Elegy begin. Spotlights hit Sam Carter as he starts to sing, the rest of the stage still murky.
