Foo Fighters Return With Dark New Single ‘Asking For A Friend’ And 2026 North American Stadium Tour

by | Oct 23, 2025

Foo Fighters have returned with Asking For A Friend, a darkly melodic new single that channels both introspection and intensity — and they’re pairing it with the announcement of a massive 2026 North American stadium tour. The new track finds Dave Grohl and company exploring a brooding, hypnotic groove that builds into a cathartic storm of sound. “What is real? I’m asking for a friend,” Grohl demands in the song’s impassioned refrain, before it all crashes to a halt in a breathless scream of “Or is this the end?” It’s quintessential Foo Fighters — emotionally raw, sonically powerful, and impossible to ignore.

The single arrives as a reawakening of sorts for a band that’s been through transformation and renewal in recent years. Grohl’s accompanying message to fans captures that spirit perfectly. Writing with trademark candour and poetic imagery, he described a moment of personal reflection while in Japan, watching the clouds slowly part to reveal the hidden majesty of Mount Fuji — a metaphor for the band’s own rediscovery of purpose.

“I knew that Mt. Fuji was hiding somewhere behind those clouds in glorious slumber,” Grohl wrote. “I sat in silence, waiting for the clouds to break, hoping for some evidence that the behemoth was indeed real. Before too long, the stars appeared in the night sky, the fog suddenly cleared, and… there it was. Towering in the dark, I gasped at its enormity. Humbled by its giant silhouette, my heart soared as my wish was realized. I had my proof.”

That moment of clarity, he explained, became symbolic of Foo Fighters’ recent journey: “Since our return to the stage in San Luis Obispo five weeks ago, we have been reminded of why we love and are forever devoted to doing this Foo Fighters thing,” Grohl continued. “From reconnecting as a band and staring at a list of 30 years worth of songs to brush off, to reimagining versions with the incredible blessing of Ilan Rubin behind the drums, to reuniting with our amazing fans and blasting them with everything we’ve got — the sun is finally rising over the horizon.”

That rising sun — and renewed sense of purpose — also shines through Asking For A Friend, which Grohl describes as a song “for those who have waited patiently in the cold, relying on hope and faith for their horizon to appear. Searching for proof when hanging by a wish until the sun shines again.”

The single is the first of what Grohl hints will be “many songs to come,” signalling another creative chapter for the band’s current line-up: Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Rami Jaffee and drummer Ilan Rubin.

In his statement, Grohl also revealed that the upcoming Foo Fighters tour will reunite him with one of his oldest musical companions: Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. “In 1992 I first saw the legendary Kyuss perform at the Off Ramp in Seattle and met Mr. Josh Homme,” Grohl recalled. “Before long, their album Blues For The Red Sun became the soundtrack to that summer. Thirty-three years later and with many miles behind us, I have shared some of my life’s most rewarding musical moments with my dear friend, Josh — a lifelong bond that goes far beyond the sound we’ve made together. So it is with great happiness that we can share this next chapter together with his almighty Queens Of The Stone Age. Take cover.”

Queens Of The Stone Age will serve as direct support on all dates of the Foo Fighters’ newly announced 2026 North American Stadium Tour, except for the September 12 date in Fargo, North Dakota. The tour marks the band’s first stadium run since their record-breaking Everything Or Nothing At All world tour in 2023–2024, which sold out massive venues across the globe.

Kicking off 4th August, 2026, at Rogers Stadium in Toronto, the new trek will deliver Foo Fighters’ signature “maximum volume euphoria” to 12 major cities, wrapping up 26th September at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium.

Fans can expect the raw, high-octane performances that have made Foo Fighters one of the most reliable and exhilarating live acts in rock history — bolstered by the band’s renewed energy and a growing catalogue that spans three decades.

For Grohl and the Foo Fighters, Asking For A Friend represents more than just a new single — it’s a statement of endurance, gratitude, and faith in the transformative power of rock & roll. As Grohl wrote, reflecting on both his experience in Japan and the band’s rebirth: “As the clouds slowly clear and life comes into view, there are many reasons to be grateful. And humbled. I know this and I feel this every day… Let’s watch this mountain come into view together.”
