GeeJay Share New Track ‘Murder’ And Announce Biggest Headline Show To Date

by | Sep 16, 2025

North London soul-pop duo GeeJay have unveiled their brand new track Murder and announced details of their biggest headline show to date at Islington Assembly Hall on 20th November.

The pair – vocalist and songwriter Gina Jane and producer/multi-instrumentalist Jay Lobo – have been steadily building a reputation for infectious, genre-blurring songs with a live energy that has taken them from small club stages to sold-out venues including The Jazz Café and The Lower Third.

Murder is a striking new release that fuses soul, funk, jazz and pop, anchored by Gina Jane’s velvet vocals and Lobo’s deft production touches. While the music radiates summery warmth, the lyrics carry a more sobering message. Reflecting on humanity’s failure to break free from cycles of violence, the track is, as Jane explains, “a plea for peace.”

“It’s sad that we feel a need to make a song like this,” she says. “In a world where humans claim to be so civilised and evolved, it’s pretty contrary to see that we can still be so barbaric.”

The duo’s story is almost as serendipitous as their sound. They first crossed paths by accident in 2016, when a rota mix-up at the Haringey café Music & Beans put them on shift together for the first time. Post-shift jam sessions in the café’s back room soon revealed a rare chemistry, and within months they were writing into the early hours and honing the songs that would define their identity.

From those beginnings came breakthrough singles Stronger and Ordinary Girl – now boasting over 25 million streams – followed by their 2023 debut album What’s The Sun Without The Rain?. The record earned warm critical praise and airplay across BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2 and Apple Music 1, as well as playlist support from Spotify.

GeeJay’s next chapter looks set to be even bigger. Their Islington Assembly Hall date marks a major step up for the duo, with a full live band joining them for the show. Meanwhile, Murder offers an early glimpse of what to expect from their forthcoming second album, which they are currently working on.

“Are we having a nice time so far? Are we getting a bit warmer?” Amy Macdonald grins, peering out at a Hammersmith Apollo audience bundled into coats and scarves. It’s a question that becomes a running joke throughout the night — because despite the November chill and the decidedly frugal heating, Macdonald sets about warming the 5,000-capacity venue the only way she knows how: with humour, heart, and a powerhouse performance that leaves no seat unshaken.
