Flamenco icons Gipsy Kings featuring Tonino Baliardo have announced their new album Historia, set for release on 15 May 2026. The record marks a major new chapter for the GRAMMY®-winning group, who first reshaped global pop in the late ’80s with their pioneering blend of flamenco, Latin rhythms, pop hooks and genre-spanning influences.
To launch the album, the band have released its lead single Señorita, a vibrant, celebratory track driven by Baliardo’s unmistakable flamenco guitar. Rich vocals, sensual rhythms and the group’s signature fiery energy combine to transport listeners straight to the heart of Catalan gipsy tradition.
Baliardo reflects: “Music and dance are a fundamental part of Gipsy culture… It has been an idea for a few years to write a song with a strong rhythm and joyful chorus to capture those early wonderful memories of my youth. It fits perfectly into the Historia album as it reflects the many influences and ideas on the new record.”
Nearly four decades after their breakthrough, the Gipsy Kings’ cultural impact remains profound. With over 25 million album sales, 2 billion streams, and countless sold-out performances worldwide, the group continue to showcase an evolving sound while honouring the rich musical traditions that shaped them. Their legacy spans everything from high-profile film soundtracks to performances for global icons.
Historia promises the same vibrant eclecticism the band are cherished for. While Señorita brings exuberant flair, tracks like El Campo and Big Bang deliver matching intensity. Elsewhere, the title track explodes with theatrical flair, La Guerra offers a poignant call for peace, and instrumental piece Cielo—written in memory of Tonino’s late brother Paco—channels pure, euphoric beauty. Throughout, Baliardo’s virtuosic guitar remains the album’s spine.
“I have been recording albums with the Gipsy Kings for over 40 years,” Baliardo says. “With Historia I wanted it to have an adventurous spirit. At the same time, it’s about the story of the Gipsy Kings, and what happened when Bamboléo and Djobi, Djoba became global hits. We were ambitious… but we never expected everything that happened.”
Gipsy Kings featuring Tonino Baliardo close out 2025 with a New Year’s Eve performance in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Looking ahead to 2026, the group will mount a North American headline tour and release a long-awaited documentary on Amazon Prime.
