James Morrison Shares Stirring New Single ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Loved’ Ahead Of Sixth Album ‘Fight Another Day’

by | Jul 1, 2025

Fresh off the success of his comeback single Fight Another Day, James Morrison continues his triumphant return with a second taste of his upcoming album—The Man Who Can’t Be Loved—a soaring, soul-stirring piano ballad that’s classic Morrison through and through.

Premiered by Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2 and now riding a wave of momentum with a coveted spot on the station’s B-list, Morrison’s comeback is already resonating with old fans and new audiences alike. His latest single dives deeper into the emotional heart of his forthcoming sixth album, also titled Fight Another Day, due for release on 3rd October.

Stripped back to just piano and voice, The Man Who Can’t Be Loved places Morrison’s unmistakable raspy, blues-inflected vocals front and centre. Backed by lush, soulful harmonies, the track is a raw meditation on emotional vulnerability and self-doubt. “It’s a song about being in a place where you feel like you’re not enough or you’re inadequate in loving someone and questioning who you are,” Morrison explains.

Co-written with Adam James and Kjetil Mørland, and co-produced by Morrison and long-time collaborator Mark Taylor, the track showcases a blend of emotional depth and musical craftsmanship that will likely strike a chord with fans of You Give Me Something and Broken Strings.

Together with the rousing title track, Fight Another Day, this latest release signals that Morrison’s next record will be one of his most personal yet. The album is a testament to perseverance through struggle, striking a balance between soulful introspection and uplifting resolve. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Stevie Wonder, George Harrison, and more modern influences like Imagine Dragons and AWOLNATION, Morrison weaves timeless soul-pop with fresh, contemporary flourishes.

The record also features songwriting and production contributions from a stellar list of collaborators, including Eg White (two-time Ivor Novello winner), Daniel Merriweather, Connor Reeves, and Andy Platt (Young Gun Silver Fox).

To celebrate the album, Morrison is also hitting the road this September for a short UK headline tour. Demand has been high, with Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall and London’s Palladium already sold out. A few remaining tickets are available for shows in Birmingham and Glasgow.

UK Tour Dates – September 2025:
23rd – Birmingham, Symphony Hall
24th – Glasgow, SEC Armadillo
26th – Manchester, Bridgewater Hall
28th – London, Palladium

After years away from the spotlight, James Morrison’s voice—and his message—feel more urgent than ever. If The Man Who Can’t Be Loved is any indication, Fight Another Day may well be the most powerful chapter of his story yet.
