Karin Ann Teams Up With Suki Waterhouse For Heart-Stirring New Single ‘i was never yours’

by | Oct 8, 2025

Slovak singer-songwriter Karin Ann has unveiled her stunning new single, i was never yours, marking an evolution in sound and storytelling for the rapidly rising artist. The track — co-written with Suki Waterhouse and Harrison Whitford (Phoebe Bridgers) and produced by Benjamin Lazar Davis (Maya Hawke) — finds Karin blending folk, country, and indie rock into a sound that feels both intimate and cinematic.

Anchored by gentle acoustic guitars, pedal steel, and fiddle, ‘i was never yours’ captures the ache of heartbreak with a quiet, raw beauty. Karin’s distinctive vocal delivery balances fragility with defiance, as she reflects on detachment and the painful realisation that not every connection is meant to last.

“This song is about letting go — about facing the truth when a relationship feels more like a memory than a moment,” Karin explains. “It’s that difficult but necessary acceptance that sometimes love isn’t enough to keep two people together.”

The single has already sparked widespread attention, earning spins across key U.S. radio stations including KUTX (Austin), The Spectrum (SiriusXM), and KCMP (Minneapolis), alongside rising airplay in the UK, where it has surpassed 100,000 streams within weeks of release and entered the Official UK Charts Top 50.

i was never yours also marks a creative turning point for Karin Ann. While her earlier work explored lush, alt-pop soundscapes, this new era sees her leaning into Americana and folk roots — inspired by the timeless emotional resonance of artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Mitski, and First Aid Kit, but channelling it through her own lens of youthful honesty and European storytelling.

The accompanying music video — directed by frequent collaborator Tomas Kopecky — mirrors the song’s emotional journey with dreamlike imagery and understated vulnerability, positioning Karin as both the observer and the heartbroken narrator of her own story.

The release follows the success of her 2024 debut album through the telescope, which introduced her as a fearless new voice tackling identity, queerness, and emotional truth. The record helped earn Karin growing international acclaim and saw her share stages with YUNGBLUD, LP, and My Chemical Romance.

As she builds toward a series of new releases set for 2026, ‘i was never yours’ feels like the start of something significant — a moment that redefines Karin Ann not just as a breakout artist, but as one of the most compelling new songwriters shaping modern indie folk.
