London art-rock outfit KillerStar have announced details of their anticipated second album, The Afterglow, set for release on 20th March. The news arrives alongside the record’s lead single, So Easy, and confirmation that the band will celebrate the album with two intimate launch shows at London’s legendary 100 Club on 6th and 7th March.
The new single So Easy showcases KillerStar’s ability to filter vintage glam-rock textures through a modern lens. A sparkling central guitar riff drives the track, underpinned by stomping rhythms and lifted by lush harmonies from The Webb Sisters. As the song evolves, Mike Garson’s unmistakably expressive piano work steers it into unexpectedly emotional territory. The track also sees core member Rob Fleming double guitars with Bowie alumnus Earl Slick, while Mark Plati takes up bass duties.
“We are excited to release So Easy, the first song from our upcoming second album,” Fleming says. “It’s an adventurous rock song, with hooks and twists and turns. Hopefully the joy and energy we had writing and playing it translates well to the listener.”
The Afterglow expands upon the widescreen vision of the band’s debut, shifting seamlessly between art rock, classic-rock sophistication, psychedelia, and the band’s growing appetite for deeper progressive exploration. “Fueled by the great reception to our first album and the energy of our live shows, I set about writing a new set of songs,” Fleming adds. “We feel the album is a natural progression from the first record both in terms of the songwriting and sonically.”
At its core, KillerStar remains the partnership of Rob Fleming (vocals, guitar, synths) and James Sedge (drums). They are once again joined by Bowie band alumni Garson, Slick, and Plati, while The Webb Sisters contribute their signature vocal textures throughout. The album also features select guest appearances from Gerry Leonard, Alfio Annibali, Carey Frank, Dom Beken, and long-time collaborator Emm Gryner.
The Afterglow was written by Fleming with Sedge, co-produced with Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, The Who), and completed with mastering by Joe La Porta (digital) and Miles Showell (vinyl). Recording sessions took place across London, New York, and Los Angeles, including at RAK, The Clubhouse, Strongroom, and Dean Street Studios.
The video for So Easy brings a modern twist to the classic Bonnie-and-Clyde mythos, following two young lovers as their petty crimes snowball into high-stakes escapades. Directed by JJ Eringa, the film includes several playful KillerStar Easter eggs for keen-eyed fans.
KillerStar will return to their spiritual live home, the 100 Club, for two album launch shows in March. Having previously sold out all three of their headline appearances at the venue, the band promise an explosive celebration of their new era. Fans attending both nights will be able to claim a free exclusive t-shirt from the merch stand.
