Kittie Mark 25 Years Of ‘Spit’ With Explosive New EP ‘Spit XXV’

by | Sep 19, 2025

Canadian heavy music trailblazers Kittie are celebrating a milestone in style with the release of their brand-new EP Spit XXV, out now via Sumerian Records. The four-track collection reimagines highlights from the band’s landmark 2000 debut Spit, re-recorded with the same producer who helped shape its fury 25 years ago, Garth Richardson.

The EP revisits fan favourites including Spit, Brackish, Charlotte, and the confrontational Do You Think I’m A Whore?, which now comes paired with a bold new video directed by William Felch. The re-recordings channel the raw aggression that first launched Kittie into global consciousness while sharpening the edge with the power and precision of a band who have grown fiercer with time.

“Re-recording these songs has been an emotional and empowering journey,” says vocalist and guitarist Morgan Lander. “It’s a chance to honour our roots while bringing a new level of energy and experience to the music. Spit XXV isn’t just a celebration of where we came from, but a thank-you to the fans who have stood by us for the past 25 years.”

Lander describes Do You Think I’m A Whore? as the “dark horse” of their debut and relished giving it the updated treatment it deserved. With its revitalised sound and striking visuals, the track captures the uncompromising spirit that made Kittie icons in the first place.

The original Spit album went gold and remains a cornerstone of heavy music, influencing a generation of artists. Its title track was even named among Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Songs of All Time in 2023. But Kittie’s new chapter is proving they’re not just celebrating the past.

Their 2024 comeback album Fire stormed the charts, hit #13 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart, and earned them a Juno Award nomination for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year. With nearly a million monthly listeners on Spotify and recent festival triumphs at Sick New World, Welcome To Rockville, and Sonic Temple, Kittie are enjoying their strongest era in over a decade.

This autumn, the band will take the Spit XXV celebration to major stages, including sets at Louder Than Life and Aftershock Festival. Fans at Louder Than Life can also catch Morgan and drummer Mercedes Lander behind the decks at the Blood Rave afterparty.

Two and a half decades after four teenagers from Ontario tore down barriers in heavy music, Kittie remain as vital and uncompromising as ever. With Spit XXV, they honour their roots while roaring headlong into the future.
