Man/Woman/Chainsaw Sign To Fiction Records And Share Joyous New Single ‘Only Girl’

by | Nov 18, 2025

Explosive London six-piece Man/Woman/Chainsaw have signed to Fiction Records, marking a major milestone for a band whose rise has been propelled by frenetic live shows and a genre-warping approach to art-punk. To celebrate, the group have released their exuberant new single “Only Girl”, a soaring, violin-led burst of energy that has quickly become a highlight of their recent sets.

Formed by vocalist-guitarist Billy Ward and bassist-vocalist Vera Leppänen when they were just 16, the band has grown into one of the capital’s most compelling young acts. Their line-up — rounded out by Emmie-Mae Avery on vocals and synths, Clio Harwood on violin, Lola Cherry on drums and Billy Doyle on guitars — fuels the unpredictable chaos and inventive arrangements that have become their trademark.

Recorded at RAK Studios with producers Seth Evans and Margo Broom, Only Girl showcases the group’s collaborative spark. Harwood’s ripping violin leads the charge, locked in with Cherry’s restless percussion, while Doyle’s and Ward’s guitars twist the track from grungy riffing into something brighter and more celebratory.

Only Girl is our playful love song,” says Leppänen, who takes lead vocals on the track. “Built around a ripping violin top-line and birthed from a grungy guitar jam, it gradually became something more boisterous and altogether more joyful — a total declaration of love. We had a lot of fun making it.”

The new single arrives after a phenomenal run for the band: two sold-out UK headline tours, a packed-out night at London’s Scala, live sessions for KEXP and BBC 6 Music, and a breakout showing at SXSW in Austin earlier this year. Their momentum has cemented their reputation as one of the UK’s most thrilling new prospects — a tight-knit, inventive unit pushing guitar music forward with flair and fearlessness.

Alongside the signing news, Man/Woman/Chainsaw have announced a free London show at Omeara on 2nd December, ahead of further 2026 dates in Hebden Bridge, Edinburgh and Liverpool. Their debut album is confirmed for release later in 2026.

For an artist whose world seems stitched together from silver-screen glamour, smoky jazz clubs and the afterglow of heartbreak, Luvcat – the stage name of Liverpool-born Sophie Morgan Howarth – is every bit as cinematic live as her debut album Vicious Delicious suggests. At KOKO, Camden on Wednesday night, the rising star turned the storied venue into a dreamscape of old Hollywood, haunted romance and camp theatre – a show that was equal parts cabaret, confession and carnival.
