Rising London six-piece Man/Woman/Chainsaw continue their rapid ascent with the release of blistering new single Goddamn, Lizard Man!, the latest taste of their highly anticipated debut album Cannonball, arriving 7th August via Fiction Records.
Already earning a reputation as one of the UK’s most thrilling young live acts, the band channel wiry post-punk energy, theatrical experimentation and chaotic emotional honesty into a track that feels both confrontational and wildly infectious. The new single also marks the first time guitarist and vocalist Billy Ward takes lead vocal duties on record, delivering a grimy, swaggering performance inspired by manipulative personalities who somehow remain magnetic despite every warning sign.
Driven by jagged riffs and an unforgettable string-and-synth refrain, Goddamn, Lizard Man! showcases the genre-defying ambition that has quickly made Man/Woman/Chainsaw one of the capital’s most talked-about new bands. Recorded at the legendary RAK Studios alongside producers Seth Evans and Margo Broom, the track captures the group’s ability to balance raw punk aggression with moments of cinematic grandeur.
The single follows previous releases Only Girl and Nosedive, both of which hinted at the scale and unpredictability of Cannonball. Across its eleven tracks, the album reportedly veers between explosive art-rock, softer introspective moments and sprawling experimental passages, reflecting the emotional chaos of late teens and early adulthood.
Formed while still teenagers and originally writing songs together in a converted vicarage, the six-piece have spent the past year building serious momentum. After selling out London’s Scala and completing multiple sold-out UK tours, the band also turned heads internationally with appearances at SXSW and sessions for KEXP and BBC 6 Music.
Drummer Lola Cherry describes the album as an attempt to create “a whole record of bangers” before the band embraced the more vulnerable side of their songwriting, something that now feels central to their sound. That push and pull between chaos and tenderness appears to define Cannonball, giving the record an unpredictability that mirrors the band’s increasingly feral live reputation.
With influences ranging from experimental post-punk to theatrical indie rock, Man/Woman/Chainsaw have quickly carved out a space entirely their own within the UK alternative scene. Their ability to shift from intimate emotional collapse to full-scale sonic assault in the space of a single song is rapidly turning them into one of Britain’s most exciting breakthrough acts.
The band will spend the summer on the festival circuit before heading out on a major UK and Ireland headline run this autumn in support of the album.
