South Wales newcomers MORN have kicked off 2026 with the release of their ferocious new single The Standard Model, backed by B-side I Watched You As Your Mind Slipped Far (Away from Me).
Marking their first new material since the breakout success of 2025’s Modern Man, the track sees the band leaning fully into their chaotic, high-voltage identity. Built on jagged, relentless guitar riffs and propelled by breathless energy, The Standard Model captures MORN at their most immediate and unfiltered. Despite its darker lyrical themes—centred on a figure who escapes accountability—the song carries an unexpected sense of euphoria, underpinned by bassist Mae Ryder’s hypnotic choral hooks.
Vocalist and guitarist Robert Riba describes the track as a long-standing part of the band’s DNA, evolving through their live performances into something both abrasive and exhilarating. Recorded live in the studio with producer Dan Carey, the release captures the raw, in-room intensity that has quickly become central to their reputation.
The accompanying B-side offers a contrasting yet equally immersive experience, exploring themes of emotional collapse and transformation through a slower, more expansive sound. Together, the two tracks present a snapshot of a band balancing volatility with atmosphere—an approach that has resonated strongly with audiences over the past year.
Comprised of siblings Oliver Riba, Robert Riba, Mae Ryder and Noah Ryder, MORN have built a growing following through relentless touring and a reputation for unpredictable, high-energy performances. Their sound—shifting between ethereal melodies and abrasive noise—draws equally from the landscapes of South Wales and the urgency of London’s live circuit.
Following appearances at festivals including Green Man Festival and Live At Leeds, the band now gear up for a busy run of headline shows, festival slots, and support dates with Militarie Gun. A limited edition 7” release of The Standard Model will follow on 1st May.
