Muse Return With Electrifying New Single ‘Unravelling’ — A Thunderous Taste Of What’s To Come

by | Jun 21, 2025

Muse have unleashed their blistering new single Unravelling, igniting excitement among fans as they return to the world stage with their trademark flair for drama and dystopian grandeur. The track marks their first new music since 2022’s Will Of The People and signals the beginning of a bold new chapter for the stadium-filling trio.

The single made its surprise live debut earlier this month during the band’s tour opener in Helsinki, leaving the crowd stunned by its sheer sonic force. Now officially released, Unravelling is already making waves — and not just among die-hard fans. Critics are calling it a ferocious fusion of Muse’s progressive past and their heavier, more experimental leanings.

Produced by Muse and longtime live collaborator Dan Lancaster (Bring Me The Horizon, Enter Shikari), Unravelling opens with eerie synth loops before erupting into an explosive wall of sound. Matt Bellamy’s unmistakable falsetto glides over pounding drums and chugging riffs, building into a chorus that is as emotionally urgent as it is thunderous. It’s the kind of track made for stadiums — and that’s exactly where Muse are taking it this summer.

In a recent interview, Bellamy hinted at the band’s shift toward “a darker, heavier sound” in new material, and Unravelling doesn’t disappoint. The band’s use of an eight-string guitar — a first for Muse — adds crushing depth to the mix, infusing the track with a modern metal edge. The result is a sound that’s both forward-thinking and unmistakably Muse.

Lyrically, Unravelling continues the band’s exploration of societal decay, personal disintegration, and the loss of control in an increasingly fractured world. Lines like “We’re slipping through the cracks of time / A twisted web we can’t unwind” tap into the existential unease that has defined much of the British trio’s output over the last two decades.

Following its official release, the band confirmed the song will form a centrepiece of their summer festival sets, which include stops at Hellfest, Open’er, Pinkpop, NOS Alive, and Mad Cool — some of which the group are stepping in to headline following the departure of Kings Of Leon after frontman Caleb Followill suffered a “serious injury”. Muse are clearly relishing their return to the stage, with bassist Chris Wolstenholme recently revealing that new material is in active development — with a tenth studio album currently targeted for 2026.
