Natalie Imbruglia enters a bold new chapter with the release of her new album Algorithm, a deeply personal and creatively liberated record that sees the Australian-British singer-songwriter embracing freedom, self-belief and a renewed sense of artistic control. Out now, Algorithm marks the latest evolution in a career that began with her multi-million-selling international breakthrough Left Of The Middle and its era-defining single Torn. More than two decades on, Imbruglia sounds energised and firmly in command of her direction, balancing sleek contemporary pop with the emotional honesty that has long defined her songwriting.

The album arrives following a run of successful singles, including Upside Down, Algorithm and Just Drive. The campaign has already seen Algorithm reach No. 2 on the iTunes pre-order chart, alongside Radio 2 support and a series of high-profile appearances and performances.
For Imbruglia, however, the significance of the album extends beyond its early reception. Having taken control of the project creatively and financially, she describes the making of Algorithm as an experience reminiscent of recording her debut album. “There was a flow to the process of making this record that I’d only really felt on my first album, where there was a little bit of magic and a little bit of grace behind it,” says Imbruglia. “It’s a beautiful thing to be at this age where nothing is projected onto me, and I can take a chance on myself. I get to be the master of my own destiny.”
That sense of liberation runs throughout the record. Algorithm moves between polished synth-pop, disco-inflected grooves and more vulnerable piano-led moments, creating an album that feels both contemporary and unmistakably Imbruglia. Opening track Debbie immediately establishes the record’s glossy, layered sound, with multilayered vocals and sleek synth-pop providing a confident introduction. Catastrophe follows with handclaps and disco-pop energy, wrapping an examination of destructive tendencies in an irresistibly catchy arrangement.

Elsewhere, Who Dimmed The Lights provides one of the album’s most emotionally affecting moments. Built around cascading piano and a heartrending chorus, the song is dedicated to powerful women who have had to fight to reclaim their identity. Endgame, meanwhile, offers a more dizzying exploration of the tension between striving for perfection and remembering to remain present. The album closes with Beautiful Love, its focus track and perhaps its most fitting statement of self-acceptance. A glimmering, dancefloor-ready anthem, the song finds Imbruglia confronting vulnerability and imperfections before emerging with a renewed sense of freedom.
Written with acclaimed producer Fraser T Smith and Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, Beautiful Love gives the album a euphoric finale while retaining the emotional directness at its core. “I had the most incredible experience with those guys,” Imbruglia explains. “They listened and were able to channel everything I wanted to say. When you’ve felt ashamed, you can be carried away by the momentum of it. But once you find your way out, it’s the most freeing feeling in the world.”
Algorithm also represents a meeting point between Imbruglia’s established pop sensibility and a broader range of influences. The resulting sound draws on everything from David Bowie and Robyn to David Byrne, with the record combining immediate pop hooks with more introspective and personal lyrics.
The album’s arrival follows an increasingly busy period for Imbruglia, who has continued to build a new generation of fans while retaining the audience that has followed her career since the 1990s. Her recent performances have included an appearance alongside Olivia Rodrigo, underlining the enduring reach of her music across generations.
Physical editions of Algorithm are also available, including a limited-edition deluxe orange gatefold vinyl exclusive to selected retailers. The collector’s format includes a two-track 7-inch single and signed artcard.
Imbruglia marks the album’s release with an intimate record store tour across the UK, combining live performances with album signing sessions. The dates begin in Bury before moving through Leeds, London, Kingston and Brighton.
The singer will then headline Brava in Madrid on 19th September, bringing her summer festival run to a close as she continues to introduce Algorithm to audiences in the UK and beyond.
