Scottish alternative outfit newshapes have unveiled their latest single Falling Away, out now via LAB Records. The new track arrives ahead of a run of UK headline shows and a wider European tour later this spring.
Self-produced by the band and mixed by Zach Jones, Falling Away channels the introspective side of artists such as Blink-182, My Chemical Romance and Dashboard Confessional. The result is a melodic, emo-leaning track that explores the search for reassurance and direction when life begins to feel uncertain.
The single follows previous release Baptise and continues a new creative chapter for the four-piece, who have built a reputation for refusing to stay within one genre. Instead, the band draw from the sounds they grew up with, blending mid-2000s emo influences with modern alternative rock dynamics.
Accompanying the track is an official music video centred on vocalist Ian Mann performing amid shifting lighting setups, reflecting the song’s reflective mood. Check it out below:
Discussing the band’s recent releases, newshapes said the new music marks a turning point following a challenging period: “Falling Away continues the new story that Baptise started for us, in more than one way. 2025 saw us face our biggest challenges yet and come out stronger and louder than ever before, and we look at 2026 as our chance to prove that we have what it takes to fly the flag for alternative music from Scotland.”
They added: “As a band, we are proud that no two songs in our catalogue sound the same. Our music shares that desire to constantly evolve and never let ourselves become predictable. There’s such a growing space for heavy music in today’s world, and we’re always looking to push the boundaries where rock, pop and metal collide.”
The release follows a strong year for the band, whose 2025 sophomore EP A Conversation With Myself has amassed over one million Spotify streams. With their first release of 2026 already gaining early traction, the quartet continue to build momentum within the UK’s alternative scene.
Comprising Ian Mann (vocals), Stephen Christie (guitar), Michael Hamilton (bass) and Logan Whyte (drums), newshapes will bring their latest material to the stage later this month with a trio of headline UK dates before joining Canadian act never easy for a wider European tour.
