Queens Of The Stone Age have unveiled their new single Where The Goth Girls At?, the third track to emerge from their forthcoming ninth studio album, Perfecth, due for release on 30th October via Matador.

Following the previously released Insignificant Other and Easy Street, the new track sees Josh Homme look back to his teenage years growing up in a Palm Desert suburb, turning memories of adolescent infatuation into a swaggering, slightly surreal rock song about teenage love, attraction and the lengths we go to impress the people who catch our eye.
Musically, Where The Goth Girls At? combines stripped-back, minimalist riffs with an explosive chorus, while rich string and horn arrangements add another layer to the track’s character. Homme’s distinctive falsetto gives the song an appropriately mischievous edge as he revisits the goth girls who captured his imagination during his youth.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Homme recalls watching goth girls working at the JCPenney counter and giving goth makeovers to older customers. “Watching the goth girls working the counter at JCPenney and giving goth makeovers to the old ladies, that’s when I knew the only place I want to be is where the goth girls at. Teenage love, ain’t it grand?”
The accompanying video takes the song’s fantasy considerably further. Directed by Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski, who previously worked with Queens Of The Stone Age on the Easy Street video, the clip unfolds inside a deserted power plant where the goth girls are very much in control. Featuring Josh Homme and his bandmates alongside comedian and actor Steve Agee, dancer and artist Scarlett Kapella, and singer and actress Lou Lou Safran, the video turns the power plant into a surreal playground of gothic transformation, authority and copious amounts of black ink.
The result is a suitably strange visual counterpart to a song rooted in youthful fascination: the goth girls aren’t simply the object of Homme’s teenage attention here, but the ones calling the shots.
Perfecth is the follow-up to 2023’s In Times New Roman… and is being produced by Homme alongside bandmate Michael Shuman. The album’s nine tracks explore different forms of love, loss, lust, friendship and family, with the record’s deliberately imperfect title reflecting its broader themes.

As Homme explains, “Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth’.” The album was created with the spirit of Kintsugi in mind – the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold – and sees Queens Of The Stone Age bringing together a collection of songs described as moving through different emotional and sonic worlds.
With Where The Goth Girls At? now joining Easy Street and Insignificant Other, Queens Of The Stone Age have offered three very different glimpses into what Perfecth has in store. The full album arrives on 30 October, just in time for Halloween – an appropriately timed release for a record already populated by goth girls, black ink, strange worlds and the ever-unreliable pursuit of perfecthtion.
